    Hi,

My uncle recently retired from his job in a large company and he kept(the very expensive laptop). While using this computer it kept trying to connect to the LAN so I went into the settings and set the computer so that it knew it was one user and wasn't networked anymore. I then also set it so that it was the admin that was the presumed user. I didnt enter a new logon password when prompted thinking that if I didn't it would be blank from now on. Now when I reboot it won't let anyone logon to the computer at all, just says it can't when I try logon to windows(I presume it's because I don't have the admin pw that was set by the tech people in Norway where the company is based. It windows 2000 sp4, is there anyway to get around the logon or do I have to reinstall using another cd(we don't have the old one). Also will the bios be locked out if I try format/re-install windows? My uncle is going mental so any help is appreciated.

    tom

Boot into safe mode and create a new user account, reboot and login with new account. Windows is so secure :D

thanks for all the suggestions but it turns out the company had installed safeguard easy on the pc which encrypts the hard drive so pw retrieval programs dont work.

how do i create a new user when booted in safe mode roamer, it doesn't give me any option for that, it just asks me to logon as admin?

I think he mean that you could login via the Admin username/profile which is usually not visible when you boot normally ..

The Offline password tool reset the Windows Admin account password - it doesn't retrieve it and AFAIK safeguard won't stop it ..
