Ripping from a recorder

Big problem, got discs from mate of tv recorded onto dvd-rw on Sony. My pc won't even show me the files and dvd decryptor will tell me info on the disc but won't let me rip it. Anyone have same problems and what can I do to rip them from the disc.

Obvious question is is yours a DVD player.

I would take a guess and SONY probably uses a nonstandard format to stop people making copies and selling them.

Try using a lens cleaner, had the same problem myself, could'tn access DVD-RW's kept getting cyclic redundancy when i went to access.
