    Hey there,

Was wondering if there is a favourite book that anyone recommends to begin with.
Am pretty handy and have done some basic woodwork but no carving and am keen to get into it.
    Many thanks

    Try
    www.stobartdavies.com
and click on the woodcarving link. Addictive site though!

    Hi Builderbob,

There are excellent weekly/ fortnightly publications, covering all areas of woodwork. From woodturning, routing through to wood carving and furniture making. So atrip to your local news agents should give you some idea of whats available.

For your first attempts at carving , choose woodcarvers lime, as it is so forgiving as a carvers timber. Sharp tools will glide through the timber either acroos the grain, or along the grain. Your choice of timber at your first attempt is most important. The wrong choice of timber now, may indeed discourage you from trying. So sharp tools, and woodcarvers lime, and have fun.

If you have trouble in getting some lime, post here , and we will help you out on that one.

    Good luck,

    kadman:)
