got this the other day http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=312855&cks=PRL

    Sapphire Radeon X800GTO 256MB GDDR3, PCI-Express,

actually putting it in the pc etc ain't the problem,
it says on the box it needs to be connected to system power supply?

but it doesnt seem to have a connection for power it has a small connection near top of card with 2 pins but this looks like its for audio?

I would have assumed it would need to be connected to power supply to run the fan ? howver the fan is not as big as some of the other cards if seen.

    Any one help ?

Does it have a rectangular 6-pin connector on one edge of the card? If so, that's what you need to connect. Only a very new PSU will have this connector, and normally an adaptor to connect it to normal molex connectors will be included with the card.
That said, my old X800 (non GTO/Pro/whatever) did not require extra power, it was fully powered by the PCI-Express slot.

yes thats what what i was expecting to see - molex connector
but it does not have one , so it obviously does not require power from
    pc psu

PCI express cards don't have the normal molex connectors, they have these new 6-pin ones, look totally different.

Anyways, if you boot it without a necessary extra power connector connected, you will see a red screen warning you that it needs the extra power. If you get no warning screen (on an ATI card anyway), you're fine, no extra power needed. Nvidia cards will allow the system to boot normally but will pop up a window once in windows to notify you that the card is working but has clocked itself back due to the lack of power.
