Accountancy Firms - Tax Internship

I'm looking to get a summer internship in an accountancy firm, in the tax department. After college I plan to do the ITIs. I'm in the second year of a three year degree in UCD. Economics and Finance.
Which firm/s do you suggest I target with my applications?
Should I go for the big four or are there others which are particulary tax orientated? Who would you get the most worthwhile experience with?
Are the big four more likely to offer me a job the year after next because I've had an internship with them? What about if I had an internship with a different firm?
When do people suggest I apply? I was going to do it in about the next two weeks. I have strong grades in tax so far (and my other subjects!) and will have a referrence from my tax lecturer. I also have a lot of retail experience but that's not too relevant.
I live in Dublin and want to stay here for the summer btw...
Any general advice would also be appreciated.
    Thanks!

From what I hear having an internship with one of the Big 4 would give you better than a 90% chance of then getting a job with them the next year. An internship with any company though would obviously help you a lot though as it eould show you ambition and desire fot the job, which is what they want to see.
It is pretty early to be applying now for an internship I think. Check websites though, it is proabably around January or Feb that they are looking for applicants
