ok we have all seen them in pubs where they have Arabic, israel Italian channels with Live Premership games

The thing is how do you get them ?

Mate has a pub and wants to get punters in and this is one of the options

Is it difficult to do & what does he need & where can he go ?

As far as I know/think, there are other satelite services (like Sky, only free) were you can get all these TV channels. You can get the dish&receivers from the likes of Aldi and Lidl.

But most pubs I've seen have a Sky pub channel which they have to pay extra for... meaning perhaps the law forces them to? I think you should look into it further to save yourself any hassel.

the only way to watch the Premiership for free legally in Ireland is through RTÉ 2. those channels you mention require subscriptions and the Lidl/Aldi boxes afaik have no CI slot for a viewing card so are useless for these channels

I got my info from a Czech guy I used to work with. He used said recievers to watch channels from his coutry. He also said Premiership matches were shown in foriegn languages and he mentioned nothing of subscriptions fees.

But may I repeat there may be laws in this coutry preventing the use of such services. Monk seems to think so.

Pay no attention to him, he just loves to throw around the "Illegal" word at every opportunity.

IF there is any un-encrypted channel broadcasting the matches that can be picked up here then it is perfectly legal to watch them. It would also be legal to purchase viewing cards and recievers in another EU state and bring them over here to watch the foreign channels.

ArT sport cards and other official cards for these channels are NOT illegal in this country. Mossy get your facts right before you go shouting off about whats legal and whats not legal in this country.

Where it becomes a legal issue is when the card is used in a public place, like a public house for example. There are many cases pending over in the UK at the moment regarding public houses showing games on these channels. These cases are been driven mainly by Sky because they are losing subscriptions from thes foreign broadcasters. There is also an issue regarding the "closed period" between 14.45 and 17.15 on Saturday afternoons where the premier league say its illegal for any premiership or championship match to be shown live on telly during these times. But as we are in Ireland we are not governed by this ruling. If there was a case to be taken over here it would probably have to be taken by RTE or Setanta as they are the rights holders for 3pm matches over here.

Regardless of thes rules and laws, what one does with regards to these cards in his or own house is totally legal once the subscription has been paid on the card.

you are my new best friend

now everyone, let's play "read the post properly" before shouting off

can anyone actually see what it is that i said? can you?

thats right, if you actually looked at the post you would notice that i said
the only way to watch the Premiership for free legally

thats the problem with people these days, they cherry pick and then go with that. do please tell me of the many free ways of watching in this country. Setanta is not available free of charge, neither are foreign television packages. what is? that's right RTÉ which i mentioned in my post

    Point taken Mossy,

But I've had posts about this saturday football topic removed from boards on a few ocassions because people felt the whole topic was illegal. Now I know its not from you, but look at the topic currently taking place in the mmds forum about tivo, people are to quick to judge a thread before looking into it properly.
