    Hey all.
I dont really know where to post this but this forum seems the best. Hadn't played my electric guitar for a while and picked it up the other day and when I plugged in there was a buzzing coming through the amp. Its eliminated when I touch something metal on the guitar.. I.e the Strings.

Presume this is a problem with earth or something along those lines. Any help wpild be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the grounding the guitar. Have you tested out a different guitar through the amp?

Yeah, i suspect that the ground wire soldered to the output jack socket on your guitar has become loose/dislodged. Open up the cavity and have a poke around for loose wires, if it all seems ok then the problem is more than likely that the ground wire has come loose from one of the plugs on your guitar lead.

Obviously, try a different lead before you start opening it up. :) If the jack earth was disconnected the guitar would hardly work, if at all, and touching it wouldn't get rid of the buzzing. At worst I'd say your bridge earth wire is disconnected or loose - that would explain why the problem goes away when you touch the metal. A bad solder joint is also a possibility. What kind of guitar is it?

Definitely not a lead problem.. And its a fender Strat.. A cheapish one but not old... Freaked that i'm having problems.. Is taking it apart a major job?

Take off the backplate first, check if the wire is connected to the trem claw. If thats in place then take off the pickguard and check the wiring there. If there is a loose wire there that would be the problem.
