I'm putting my hand out to be slapped, but I think I deserve it.

There are 150 players left in an 800 player tournament. I arrived at this table about 15 hands earlier. I hadn't played a single hand as I'd been tilting a bit after losing half my stack to a bad beat on the previous table. When this hand came up it was time to get back in the saddle. This guy has been in every hand and has taken down a bunch of small pots. The only time he showed he held 98s. Flop was K92 rainbow and he called a slightly smaller stacks all-in. He caught running 8s for a FH.

    Game: No Limit Hold 'em
Level IX: 50 Ante 200/400 Blinds (25 Minimum Chip)
Average Stack: 18,855.93 (5,000 starting chips)
    Remaining Players: 118 (445 started)
    Seat 1 : starts with 55,725
    Seat 2 : starts with 57,800
    Seat 3 : starts with 2,100
    Seat 4 : starts with 2,625
    Seat 5 : AUSSIEGUY starts with 31,750
    Seat 6 : starts with 3,025
    Seat 7 : IrishTony starts with 20,950
    Seat 8 : starts with 16,575
    Seat 9 : starts with 9,900
    Seat 10 : starts with 24,850
Seat 10 : has the dealer button
    DEALING HOLE CARDS<<<
    IrishTony dealt down Qh Kh
    Antes posted 50 each
Seat 1 posts the small blind 200
Seat 2 posts the big blind 400
    Seat 3 calls 400
    Seat 4 folds
    AUSSIEGUY calls 400
    Seat 6 folds
IrishTony raises 2,300 to 2,700 I intended to raise to 1200 but then pressed the "Raise Pot" button by mistake ... honest :o
    Seat 8 folds
    Seat 9 folds
    Button folds
    SB folds
    BB folds
    Seat 3 calls 1,650 and is all-in
    AUSSIEGUY calls 2,300

    DEALING FLOP<<< [ Js Tc Ks ]

    AUSSIEGUY checks
    IrishTony checks

    DEALING TURN<<< [ 2c ]

    AUSSIEGUY bets 4,500
    IrishTony calls 4,500

    DEALING RIVER<<< [ Qd ] :D ... :(

    AUSSIEGUY bets 8,500

So there's no flush and I've mixed feelings about the Q on the river. It's hard to put him on a hand but I think that more than likely he'd have raised pre-flop with an Ace having raised a few times earlier (he never showed them). The river bet is fairly consistent with his previous plays where he pushed people off the hand.

I'm already up to my neck in this one due to my stupid pre-flop raise. Do I call, fold (leaving me with about half the average ... although the big stacks in the tourney have more than 70,000) or go all-in knowing if I'm beaten I'm out? And remember guys, I only play low buy in tourneys. BTW, feel free to slag off my crap play here (like I need to give anyone permission). :)

Any ace is the nut straight so that's actually a terrible card on the river for you.
I'd probably have bet the flop with top pair and the oesd, but I think you have to fold the river.

I would have bet the flop it's a very nice flop. Due to your accidental overbet preflop it's a decent pot to take down, you're probably ahead of the all in player. Definately would be moving in over the top on the turn at least.

You simply cannot call the river bet.

    Fold.
Almost certainly has the Ace or pocket Q considering the high preflop bet and the K on the flop.
Should have definetely bet the flop and turn with top pair and a straight draw (although weak)

why check the flop??very very dangerous board and u need to find out where your at. then why jus call on turn??the pot is big enough to take down if u feel your ahead, and if your not ahead you do have outs. I fold the river, youve enough chips

Thanks lads. I played this atrociously. The mistaken pot raise really threw me off. I just kept thinking about how expensive this hand was. Looking back, I agree, I should have bet the flop. A pot raise should have seen him off. Failing that, make it very expensive for him to see the river card. If he called that, fair play to him.

Up to this hand I'd played what I felt was really my best poker. I'm generally tight aggressive, but I'd mixed it up well enough in the previous 90 minutes, picking my spots well and avoiding those tough decisions. Maybe I was still tilting a little after the earlier beat.

Apart from AUSSIEGUY, there was another LAG at the table, who had lost most of his stack just after I arrived and then built it back to 58k in the next dozen or so hands.

I'd say my real issue is playing against these super aggressive players. While I try to keep out of their way most of the time, I got caught here. The way this guy had played earlier should have indicated to me that he had a hand, (he'd consistently gotten all his chips in on the turn or river) but the optimist in me didn't believe it. The Q was, of course, the killer card. I saw no point in calling as I'd be effectively crippled and would never make it back with just 5,000 chips and these 2 maniacs at the table. So it was all-in or fold. Forever the optimist, and pretty disgusted with how this had gone so far, I made the mistake.

Sure enough, he had the nut straight (A8s) and I was gone. I can't imagine how I could have played this hand any worse. BTW, the earlier all-in guy had pocket Qs.

Thanks for the comments, and for going easy on me. :) This hand taught me quite a lot. I'll consider it $2.20 well spent.
