Sky signal

I want to "downgrade" to receiving just two mixes on my Irish subscription card. If my Irish card is not in the box when Sky send the appropriate signal, does that signal take effect, or is it the memory in the box that responds to it?
    Thanks.

Card needs to be in the box, however, it'll be sent more than once so don't think you can avoid paying for the other 4 mixes.....

I have two cards and the Irish one is less often in the box. That's the only reason for my question.
