If it's club level, then Junior and Senior does not refer to age.

In an AIL club, the Senior team is the 1st team. All teams below that are the Junior teams. So; Blackrock's (for example) 2nd XV are the Junior 1 team (J1), their third team is the Junior 2 (J2) team etc.

In a Junior club (e.g. Seapoint, Monkstown, Navan etc), the 1st team is the J1 team, the second team is the J2 team etc.

So, you will find that Blackrock's third team would play Seapoint's 2nd team. However, Seapoint's 1st team play in a provincial league, rather than play Blackrock's 2nd team apart from certain cups.

Dave, I think they are the "minor" clubs (e.g. Stillorgan?) but I thought mentioning them would cloud the issue further :)
