Looking for my first classic for daily driver.

Which do you recommend Midget or Beetle Cabrio?

Midget looks so tiny, is it safe on our roads?

    Beetle, hard to find RHD.

I go for the Beetle - easy to maintain, easy to get parts for, more room than Midget.

Join the VW club for advice, and to source a good car (or buy in the UK).

Beetle prices are low at the moment, it seems everybody now wants a split screen camper
Cabrios are changing hands for a really good prices (if you're buying-not so good if selling).

if you're looking at actually using the car for driving on public roads, then forget about the midget and go for the beetle! A midget doesnt give you a lot of sporting performance, but gives you the impression of sportiness because you sit with your bum about an inch above the road surface...
A Beetle Cabrio is 100 times more reliable and better built, easier to maintain, tons more space in the car: You can comfortably seat 4 people in the car, whereas the midget only seats 2, and with the roof up (which in Ireland is most of the time!!) you feel like the sardines do in a tin!!! The beetle convertible actually feels solid and water/windproof with the roof up and also if the car is not in a garage (even though it's not recommended) the beetle will hold out much better. The midget will probably need to be hosed out every morning after a spot of rain.

That said, you can pick up a decent midget for around 5-6k, whereas you'll need at least 9-12k for a decent VW Convertible, so there is a price issue to think of...
