I must say I didn't like them at all initially when the EB model came out but it's grown on me like an itchy rash :v:

They have one in Musician inc in you want to try it, could be a great guitar with a few mods. Some guy on the petrucci forum did some great work with his OLP.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

The OLP ones are alright, but I'm really holding out for the real thing myself. ;)

"Body from lime tree". Eh? Really? Are Thomonn trying to out do Ishibashi-speak?

Welcome to six months ago dude. I've been gassing over an OLP JP for a long long time. Stick some decent DiMarzios in her and happy days :)

Looks pretty mediocre to me. You people have terrible taste in guitars. :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,217 ✭✭✭Rustar

Not sure what the attraction is here, myself.....to me, Old Lady Products fit the niche somewhere between Squiers and cheap Ibanez's.
Doesn't mean I wouldn't buy one in a cash pinch, though...in fact I was considering the MM2 bass before I found my heavenly Iceman.
(Yes, a choir actually sang, and the rest of the room went dark, leaving only a spotlight on the Iceman when I found it. :v: )

You should drop i mre often Eoin, we GAS over something new every week. We're bound to stumble across something which meets with your approval :p

Anyway, that OLP is last week's GAS, I've since played a Lite Ash Tele and now I'm GASsing over birds eye maple :v:

I don't really like the neck on the Lite Ash Strat tbh. This week, I'm gassing over a Schecter.

The neck is a Tele neck, which is fat like you'd expect, but the birds eye maple is just... oooh... got to change my knickers again :o

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Well that's an image I never wanted

    Yeah, the birdseye is nice.

Meh, that's not doing anything for me.

This is what's jangling my balls:

    And quite importantly, this too:

Floorboards are the way forward, man. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Nah, it's not that it is carpet, it's that it's the same carpet :v:

Yeah, carpet seems all to common these days. Nice varnished floorboards are where it's all at.

This "vintage" Ibanez has been on top of today's GAS list for me... :v:

Not bad, not bad at all. Though personally, the inlays would be a real turn off.

I still say you should get yourself a 7 string. That way you can play some of the stuff from Promethius: The Discipline Of Fire And Demise. :v:

I just love those sharktooth inlays, but they're kinda rare nowadays i think. Ibanez only seem to use them on lower end RGs, with the exception of the 2570. Could be wrong though...

    Didn't know Samoth used a 7 btw...

I'm a very fussy kind of fellow when it comes to inlays, I like none the best, and usually the more elaborate, the more I hate it. The only exception to that rule is the vine inlays.

Both Samoth and Ihsahn switched to Ibanez 7's on Promethius. Just check out the video for Empty, you'll see it. Really did wonders for their sound too, I'd say that was their best album.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

I'd be the opposite - I don't like vine inlays at all (although i wouldn't refuse a free JEM). :v:

I have to watch Empty again, didn't notice the 7s at all. Interesting....

Most people never knew at all. Emperor are probably one of the best bands to have ever picked up the 7 String, because they were never content to simply chug away on it, they used the extended range to it's full potential, and really only went for the extra low end when needed. Sounds amazing altogether.

That's because Ihsahn is a damn genius. ;)

Now i have to go stick on Prometheus (and give some thought to 7 strings, curse you :p ).

That's certainly the truth. Phenominal, absolutely phenominal guitars, not to mention vocalist and songwriter. Just stick on Emperial Live Ceremony, he just unleashes some of the most technically blinding music out there, lets fly with solos and it doesn't look like any effort at all.

    Never a bad thing. ;)

Oh, and lets not forget Morbid Angel's 7 Stringed expoits.

And speaking of both Emperor and Morbid Angel, have you heard Mithras?

Just picked up this puppy tonight!
Played it through a couple of GK cabs in the store and melted the salesmen's ears with it's 450watts.
Unbelievable amount of power and tone for $259! :D

Just for my info, what is it about the neck you dont like ?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

I don't like the shape. It's very "sharp" at the back.

I find it a bit too thick from front to back if you see what I mean.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

It's not the size, it's the shape... (that's what she said :p)

I don't like the V contour or whatever it's called.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,992 ✭✭✭Johnny Storm

Thanks for the info, Feylya. Hard to describe these things via the keyboard. I would describe my Lite Ash Strat neck as definitely C shaped but just a little bit too thick for my comfort for prolonged playing. Makes my fretting hand thumb sore!
When I first tried the one in Muscian Inc I thought it had a very slim neck FFS:rolleyes: so what would I know?
At the risk of going OT I would be interested in any other comments on the Lite Ash Strat neck.

    I do man, seriously. :p

Some people come home from work and log on to the Financial Times, or the International Herald Tribune or whatever. I get my news every evening at 8 from Chris.

    That's coz i know what matters! :v:
