Now maybe I am just paranoid, infact I am fairly sure I am, but hear me out.
You know how your boss can monitor your internet usage when your in work, so, say for exmple, he can tell when I hav been sitting on boards all day when I should be working :D
But he cant tell what I am writing, posting etc, right? not unless he knows my user name, he can only tell that I have been on the site, yeah?
Well, I post on loadsa different boards type sites, althought boards.ie is obviously my favourite:p , it keeps me occupied in work (I am in sales and I like to have a wee rant/chat now and then while I am on hold or what have ye) I would never discuss what goes on in my company or anything like that, just talkin ****e about whats in the papers, or the latest hot topic, classic afterhours stuff, ye know...

Anyhows, obiously I am not supposed to be on these sites when I am in work, only at lunch time, my own time, yadda yadda, but no one in work has ever said anything to me bout my net usage, so I guessed it was no big deal.

Here's where the paranoia starts, if someone made a link between me and my user name, would they tell my boss about my boards usage?

I was just thinking, what if a boards user/moderator made the link and decided to get me into trouble?

Has this ever happened? Or do I just have too much time on my hands and I am lettin my imagination run riot???

Is it possible to delete a profile entirely? How do you check an isp address?

Wrong. He could use a packet sniffer to watch all the information going up, and thus see what you are entering. Hell, he could even see your password if he wanted to.

Though I very much doubt he does, just could.

Id just remove any info from the boards profile that related to you and you should be fine.

Or you could just create a username to use while at work and fill the profile out with someones info you dont like at the office. lol.

    Just kidding.

But really if your bosses are monitoring you net usage they dont need to find out your boards username to identify you.

Most of the time the logs of net usage are tied to the computer that you are using. So if they were having a problem with their your net usage all they would have to do is check what computer the netusage is comming from.

So id say if they havent said anything yet they dont really care.

I just tested out your theory and i have to disagree that he cannot see your passwords. All the password submitted when logging on are MD5 encrypted before leaving your computer. Although your username is clearly visable.

And yes it is possible to sniff the post as it is sent in plain text and not encrypted.

Don't worry...if anyhting does happen just DENY!! In all honesty though I don't think your boss would really care, as long as you're doing your work he can't complain...you're just paranoid.

There's also keyloggers to take into account. If he had some sort of keylogger installed on your computer he could find out what you were typing (passwords included) through that. Though, I reckon there might be some legality issues involved there. Doesn't stop some people, though. Over the years I've read quite a few stories of bosses installing keylogging systems on employees PC's to monitor what they were typing (usually to see if they were being badmouthed in some way by the employees! )

Simple rule seems to be....... never trust your boss! ;):D
