amd memory restrictions

    is it true that amd motherboards only support up to pc3200 memory and a 4 gig limit?

    i builkding new pc and wanted to get the fastest ram i cud get either pc6000 or pc8000 tho i also wanted the amd x2 4800+.

    is this not possible?

    you have to use DDR and not DDR2 you can get quicker than PC3200 but they will only be used to their potential when overclocking

    The FSB on amd boards is 200mhz, so PC3200 is all that is natively supported. Like babyeater says though, if you're overclocking it you can use PC4400 memory and when you raise the FSB above 200mhz you'll be taking advantage of the fast RAM.

    I wouldnt worry about not being able to use really fast RAM with your system. The timings are much tighter with lower speed ram so it kind of balances out.

    Thats a good point.

    Generic DDR2 compared to Generic DDR, the DDR will still have way better timings. Probably not to the point of balancing out though... 5-5-5-12 is decent for DDR2 isnt it ?
