Been a while since I've touched anything ME, are you talking about reformatting from the ME install/boot CD?
Put in the CD, make sure your BIOS reads from the CD first and not your HD (press F2 or Delete or something when your machine starts to boot to get into the BIOS, it should say it quickly just after you turn on the PC)

If not, you could format using a HD partitioner like Acronis Partition Expert or something if you can get your hands on one.
