    xp?

try turning your s/w firewall off and check you have the correct gateway in the ip config.

Is it just IE that's not working? Do you have another browser installed (maybe RealPlayer or something like that)?

You mentioned 'Put in the Ip Stuff', broadband routers (Which I presume this is?) act as DHCP servers you shouldn't have to enter anything - try setting yoru TCP/IP to use DHCP only.
When you say can't get to the internet do you just mean just web browsing? If so have you tried using a site's IP address instead of the name (To rule out DNS issues).
Do you have any ports blocked on your router/firewall?
Can the other PC's access the internet?
If there are no ports blocked, your software firewall isn't in the way, the router is your default Gateway and the other PCs can access the web through it then manually check the routing table on your PC (ROUTE PRINT at cmdline) if need be clear the current routing table and manually add the router as the Gateway (ROUTE /? will show you how if it comes to this).

Say what? How did you set up the network? Did you use a wizard (if so, which one), or did you go through the Network Connections?

Ok, and you set the PCs IP address to the same as the router, or the default gateway? If the gateway, did you make the IP address different? What subnet mask did you use?

the submast i use is 255.255.255.0.i use the ip address of the router and then have the real ip on the router.

The address of the router should be put as the default gateway (provided the computer is connecting directly to it), and the computer itself should have a different IP address on the same range.

Actually, yeah, do that unless you have a very good reason not to. Makes things much easier.
