Almost could have been a great night....

Started off the day well, winning one of the two tickets in the freeroll before the big game. Was playing well and totally dominated the last table, holding over 80% of the chips when we got down to 4 people. Sold the ticket for €220 and took a break before the big game.

Got landed at a tough starting table, with Eamon and Willow to name a few! I built up a huge stack from robbing blinds and constantly re-raising when I felt the raiser had nothing. Only lost one hand before the break and was one of the chip leaders at the break with about 21K, from a starting stack of 5K.

Got this up to about 30K by playing tight aggressive and constantly stealing..... and then Dave (Big Dragon) comes and sits to my right. Neither of us played much until he decided to push with A4s. He had about 7K, and knowing our past history I didn't want to push without aces or kings. I look down to see KK, and before calling say 'please dave, don't get lucky?' Well did he listen? Noooooo! He hits me with an ace on the river and instead of being on 37K I'm sitting on 23K. Ah well I could afford to take the hit.... never mind. Don't want to TIILLTT!!

Down to three tables, I'm still at about 20K, and get AA. These dutifully get cracked by JJ on the river and I'm down to 10K. I soon double up against John O' Callaghan when he pushes with 10 9 and I call with AJd. It holds up and a few steals and I'm soon up to about 30K. I knock out a shortstack with AK vs AQ and I'm up to about 38K. Down to about 15 people at this stage so I've made the money anyway (€350). But the proper money doesn't start till about 5th place, about €1400. I think 10th got €500.

Anyway down to 13, playing 6 handed, and I get QQ mid position. Blinds are 2K/4K, with a few callers so I raise it up to 15K. Another guy raises it all - in for about 30K. Now I could have folded here and still be left with about 22K, but this lad had been doing the same with any low pair and any good ace, so I thought I was probably ahead. Also the pot would be massive and I probably be the tournament chip leader if I won, with a great chance to win the €8,000 top prize. So I called. He flipped over AK and it was race time.

The pot was over 60K and I was leading up until the river... when another disgusting fcuking ace pops out....AGAIN. First Dave now this.... This left me with about 5K and regretting making the call in the first place. But I was playing to win and that pot would have put me in a great position with about 70K.

I went out a few hands later when I was forced in for my last 5K on the big blind. Didn't even look at my cards, and even had a few callers, almost 20K in the pot. All I had to beat in the end as A high, flipped my cards...78. Goodnight.

Admittedly the Queens hand was not that bad a beat and I could have gotten away from it, but what a time to fcuking lose, and on the fcuking river again! Aggghhhhh! It was the difference from winning €350 (€80 profit!) and probably a few grand.

I thought I played the best poker I could play last night but again, as always, luck was the dciding factor. I only went all-in twice the entire night, BOTH when i was ahead. I built my stack entirely by re-raising when I thought the others were bluffing, and by stealing. I went into EVERY showdown ahead (except when I tried to knock out a shortstack with A7 vs AQ). The 3 biggest pots I played all night I lost ALL of them, ALL when I was ahead, and ALL of them on the river.... I cannot look at rivers anymore. Everytime I'm in a big hand and I'm ahad, when it comes to the river I'm nearly having a fcuking heart attack! I might just walk away from the table in future, I just can't stand watching anymore!

If it wasn't for these hands, I would be writing here today about how I just won a few grand... Ah well.

By the way Dave... revenge will be SWEET!!
Also how did you get on?

    Hey Rory,

Hard luck on the big game you played some good stuff in the freeroll but I can't understand taking a €50 drop on your ticket. Any time I've sold a ticket its been face value and I throw the guy a ten or 20 for luck. Or else I'd take a cut of him in the game. €50 is a steep discount. I was personally hoping to hang on and do a chop on the remaining credit with a remaning player considering your stack size when we were 5 handed but if I'd known you were going to take that much of a discount I'd have offered you cash instead :D Much better value!!

Anyway unlucky on the QQ hand.

    Olly.

Yeh cheers, I actually just needed a break, and was happy enough with €220. I'll remember you next time though!

Ul Rory, sounds like things just were not going your way.

It's interesting the QQ v AK hand considering the thread on the WSOP AK v QQ question.

Did it enter your mind at all?

The only reason you had to fold was if you believed you were up against a bigger pair.

Yet as you say a fold would certainly have bumped you up the money considerably.

Personally it's a call for me, you are in with a big shout to win this tournament if it holds up.

I just felt that 6 handed, QQ was a very good hand. If he had AA or KK so be it. It was a great chance to double up and I thought it was well worth the risk, especially going on what he had previously pushed on.

    But the fcuking river.....

    :D;)

I had one of the weirdest nights of poker ever.

In the first level I got QQ in mid position and Vernon on my right raises to 150 and I raise to 500 and, of course he calls. With rags xdxdxc board I stick out 500 and he instacalls  Same on the turn with xc and low and behold another xc on the river and he goes all-in. I think for an age an reckon that Vernon is the only person on the table staying with Axc. I folded and he showed the AJc...phewwwwwww.

After trying a few middle pair continuation bets on dodgy boards I have lost a significant amount of chips leaving me with 2.3k on the 150 bb. There are 4 limpers and the button adds 1k and Vernon calls. The clock moves onto the next level. I think for ages and reckon I can make at least one of the them to lay down and race with my Q5s so I push all in. The button folds (TT he claimed) and Vernon calls with KJo. I miss all the way to a nice 5 on the river.

I build up and get moved to RoryC's left and lose some chips and the blinds start to hurt so I go all-in a few times and then the KK hand happens and I get lucky once more on the river to survive.

I get moved to table 1 and we are down to 2 tables with me as the shortstack. I eventually see a 4 handed flop on the bb (1k/2k) and the sb makes it 5k on a K97 board so I push for 12k total with T8 and one of the limpers call with KJs and the sb folds. I get the 6 I need on the turn.

After folding for an age when short handed I move on the button twice. First my K6s loses to 88 and then my 33 shockingly misses against AA so Im short stacked again. Not going to limp to an 8th place I start pushing my short stack and get caught with A9s against AJo.

It was a strange game of the suck out and the hands were mad. I actually enjoyed it for the first time in months

After some amazing play  I find myself short stacked with 400 chips (blinds 150-300) :D
With 96o I outdraw someone badly to move to 1k :) My A8 splits a 3 way pot with Ace high. (Vernon got lucky with A6 as the board paired!!) I nick a flop with 2nd pair... Somehow i scrape together 3k. I get moved to another table. I take the blinds (300-600) and move up to abot 3900. I'm on the SB and it's folded around to me.. I see A9 and push. The BB has 3500 left and calls all-in with TcJc. A dirty T on the flop has me back to 400! I am sick.. I had 7k in my sights which was nearly average!!

So next hand a lad raises in early position.. and with the blinds out I am gettng 3/1 on my money. I go all in on the blind for 400.. He flips over AJ. I have 86o. A86 on the flop has me back to 1700! Then I go all in against another lad who has 1800. He shows A9o. I have A7o. 7 on the river saves me. 4000 now! 3 hands later I push with AT. The bloke who outdrew me with TJ calls with AK. A ten on the river saves me! LOLOLOL :D Up to 7K!!! I take the blinds with AQ, and next hand I see AK. I raise, a lad goes all in. I call.. He has AQ! Double to 14K!! Unreal.. Then I get a pair of tens and on a 6 high flop it's all over...KJ calls with 2 overcards and flush draw.. and hits it all! I was gone in about 30th... It was a bizarre tourny.. but one of the most enjoyable in a long time! Sorry to all those people I outdrew!

I found out tonight that the final table did an 8 way split for €2k each and played for €2k. I am so pissed

Some of the worst deals I've ever heard of have been done in the Fitz big game. Depressing.

At three left I start getting into deal territory even then I feel like I'm disrespecting myself.

The less said about those that think joint sixth is a win the better.

So am i since I shared 9th /10th when we both got knocked out at same time on different tables.

But that was 03:40 so I can't blame them.

But I should never have made the money anyway. Had a tremendously luck run: rivered a 4 for a pair when all-in; rivered a J for a straight against Paul Cryan's trip 10s, All-in against Jimmy Wan and we both turned over JJ; All-in with AJ hearts v KK, flop 932 hearts.

And I got half my ticket in a Sit & Go, split it with Chris green. Thanks Chris.

If the average stack usually is 10bbs and sometimes less with a 20min clock im not suprised so many deals are done. I would never pay €270 into this tournament because of the stucture, especially when u see the structures for the €350 pokerevent tournies

Structure is now changed. First 3 levels 20 mins then 25 till 2k/4k and then 30 min. Also no more tables over 9 handed.
