norton is anti-virus software. spybot , ad aware and hijackthis are spyware/malware scanning utilities.

They are all seperate applications. Try updating each one seperately to see which one is causing your computer to freeze.

i tried run them on there own but it still sticks. i ran the ad ware without the update and it got rid of 304 infected files, the computer is running a bit better now but i need to update the spy/ad ware. the spy ware wont run at all.

What happens when you run spyware on its own?

Maybe you should try re-installing them.

Spybot won't run until you update it via the internet.

Try AVG Anti-virus first. This should get rid of any virus exe's running that may be preventing you from running. Reboot, re-run the virus checker. Then start with Ad-aware, reboot, re-run Ad-aware. Once you are able to get on the 'net, update Spybot and run it.

Also look at CWShredder from trendmicro.com.

Also, download the ewido program: www.ewido.net

You could also try Microsofts anti-spyware app ?
Then re-scan with one of the above ?

    dreadful programme

uninstall spybot and try spyware doctor. there are pleanty of other antispyware programmes out there - some good, some not. the two above are about the best imo. like i said download another programme from somewhere like downloads.com, clean your system and then, if possible, reinstall spybot!

I should have made my point a bit clearer.
I wasn't recommending it coz it was good I did so becuase it might intergrate better with the system and allow the OP to update easier.
Then if that worked it might clear a good lot of the reamining spyware off.

fair point. though, from my experience i found it to be a terrible programme. i used to run it before spyware doctor just to see what results i would get, and invariably it would detect nothing when spyware doc would. after about 40 scans it had only detected spyware 5 times compared to maybe 100+ from spyware doctor. i subsequently got rid of it.

    http://www.hitmanpro.nl/

    ALL-U-NEED

I know it's in Dutch but just hit the download button.

Basically it runs a script with loads of different anti-spyware engines.

Also there are specific progs you can get to remove hijackthis, google them but this puppy definately packs a punch.

Holy crapola, the whole program is in Dutch!
Not very conveniant, hopefully they'll English-ize it soon, or at least some sort of hilarious Dutch-English translation! :D.

Lucky I googled and found and English guide: http://xthost.info/hitmanual/

Personally I didn't like spyware doctor. But its seem highly rated all over the place.
