    Hey folks,

I'm thinking of going for this camera, want to take a step up and invest in a digital SLR. Currently using the old one's Sony F505 (4 years old, 2.1 MP) so would prefer to get something of my own and with a longer battery life, heh. 'Fraid the D70s would be a bit out of my budget but have done a bit of research about the D50, read reviews on dpreview.com and other places.

Just wondering about buying online versus somewhere here, suppose you'll find cheaper deals online as the high street can be a bit of a rip off. However, maybe there's more piece of mind with buying here in case it goes wallop, easier to return etc. Been reading the sticky threads above, Gunn's seem to get a bit of praise, they've this model for €810 and she said on the phone it might be coming down a bit for Xmas. That includes the 18/55 lens, someone told me I should try and get the 18/70 lens instead but Gunn's didn't have a price for that and said they'd ring me back with a price. They said the D70s has been order for 6-8 weeks but no sign of it, not that I'm getting that one as I've said.

Had my house broken into a few days ago, nothing major taken but in case it happens should I mark the camera somehow or just leave as house insurance would cover it once I keep the receipts etc...

    Amazon have it here http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0009U5VQO/qid%3D1132366718/sr%3D8-4/ref%3Dpd%5Fka%5F4/202-9659417-6028618
however, I'm not sure what the story is with shipping, been a while since I've used them, or if the warranty would carry over to Ireland, I presume so...
Think that's about 680 euro ex. shipping.

Passed this place on the quays the other night so took down their website. NIKON D50 & 18-55mm AF-G ED DX REDUCED! was€949 now only€849.00 D50 BodyBLACK or SILVER only€799.00

Have seen the D50 on 7dayshop.com but mixed reports in the stickies on here I see. http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=&products_id=100647

    Thoughts and comments welcome.

In Dublin, Gunns are excellent. Usually have reasonable prices for the high street (well Wexford St anyway), and very enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff.

I'd advise avoiding 7dayshop. Lots of people have had good experience with them, and they're very cheap, but from personal experience if you have to get engage in returning something to them, you're in for a world of pain. In my case, it was only a £13.99 tripod, but I shudder to imagine doing it with something expensive an fragile like a body or a lens. Also at least with Canon gear there were warranty issues as they were selling grey import US stuff. With Nikon your milage might vary.

Look at http://www.technikdirekt.de/main/page.xp I've dealt with them on a number of occasions, and their prices are usually very keen, and if something is in stock, delivery is usually about 4-5 days.

    John
