We are just finishing early and going for drinks in the pub up the road.
Partners are not allowed, don't really understand why, but thats what I have been told.

Going to a restuarant for dinner, then for pints. No partners and I probably wouldn't if I could.

We dont have one at Xmas.. One of the Directors wives comes in with a spread of food and a few bottles of wine the day we break up (small company) and then come the summer we are brought on a weekend away down the sticks.. Last year we went to Carlingford.. all expenses paid.. It was great, suits me.. Id rather wait and have the nice weekend away than just go see a show and have a bit of turkey and ham.. not that theres anything wrong with that but sure... :D

A meal and then free bar. Woohoo. Although that didn't pan out as expected last year. Far too many double brandy and baileys.

Mine's in London, and no word yet as to the partenr question.. pity I wasn't with the company last year cos their x-mass party was in Spain! Don't understand the whole no partner rule anyways... I can't ever remember a reason good enough for a company to say no to all partners?!

Lots of potential for trouble. I was at an xmas party at a fairly well know retail chain where partners were allowed.

One guy who worked in the stores was a well known sleaze to lots of the girls in the shop. His partner was there and she caught wind of some of his antics. There was lots of shouting and drunken rows but nothing serious.

As a direct fallout of this three of the people involved quit. There were no partners allowed at the next party!

    we have 3 parties
one for the whole factory, you can bring your partner - not going to that one.
one for just the office staff - no partners, meal and free drink for as long as you can stand up - am going to that one
break up day finishes at lunch and it's straight to the pub - am going to that one too
    life is tough....

WOW! Thats crazy, but still cant understand why no partners in my company. There is roughly 12 staff, 10 boys, two girls, and every single one of us has a partner. There is no sleazy goings on here, as far as I can see.
The only reason I can come up with is that the boss would rather pay for 12 people instead of 24.

I work for a small company... there is only like 10 of us working here so we're going to this place its a big function room but it will be filled with a lot of other small companies!
.... no partners allowed which I think is crap because everyone is married or going out with someone a long time!!... uhh
.... So i have to put up with boring work people for a whole night!!.... God i hate work do's!... yawn!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

Free meal followed by too much free drink and dancing. No partners due to the free meal and drinks (wouldn't be fair on the single people).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 538 ✭✭✭~Leanne~

Free meal and free bar all night - no partners allowed due to about 90 of us going! Multiplied by two is a biiiig bill for my boss!! hehe!

Sounds like it. Dinner + drinks can easily come to €200 per person, especially when people let loose, like at as Christmas party.

    I have 5.

    1) Team party, we're being flown back to Dublin for it, put up in a hotel, all expenses in the Guinness brewery etc.
    2) A different team party (i'm conveniently situated between two teams so I get both!) out in Soho, meal (menu already chosen) and paid for drinks etc.
    3) A departmental party somewhere in the city, meal and drink free.
    4) The entire company x-mas party. Black Tie in some place swanky, fancy meal, free drink all night and a DJ until the early hours.
    5) Other departmental party, probably same deal as 4) above only less formal.

I have a Christmas party every week for 3 weeks in December (it may be 4, the date hasn't been confirmed for one of them), and then one in early January. Better pace myself! :)

// oh, partners may be allowed to the 2 team parties, but not the others afaik...
