Agreed... the only way to enjoy it and not get ripped off or disappointed is to have a big house party

Fair enough i take your points about staying in with cans and all!!! but i dont care about spending money this year plus none of my mates will go 4 this option.

I was looking at flights to UK and they are all real cheap for new years!!! Plus arent there 24 hours of drinking soon?

some of my mates suggested this ball yolk in jurys hotel. Sounds like a load of old farts sipping champers! Has anyone ever been?

Stone Roses Could be an option!

Definately the only way to go! Been in town a couple of years for new years and they were the worst nights ever! Over priced, over crowded and impossible to get home from!

The best new years I've had have been a few mates in the house with drink from the off license - cheap drink, easy to get home from, can choose your own music, free in and you can limit the number of people there. What more can you ask for?

or go rent a house somewhere

I did it with a few friends last year... it was great

(you need champagne though... and expensive champagne at that)

I will not be 'celebrating' new years eve in dublin, thats for sure. I am from Dublin, and have never had one decent new years down here. Too many drunken skanks and scumbags, add to that the fact that all doormen reach maximum wanker level on this night, and almost all clubs, including some pubs, have the cheek to charge €20+ to get into their **** holes and scramble for a seat/guard you bag/virginity all night.

Nope, not for me, I tell thee!

I will be heading to Portarlington, hardly the party capital of the world but I can get into all pubs without hassle from up themselves doormen, no entry fee, enough room to breath and I don't have to worry about my bag/phone/wallet being nicked!

I shall be donning my Xmas glad rags and hitting the tiles wherever the wind blows me (most likely in town) thats what Iv done the last two years in a row.. Went to Reds last year and had a great night.. The clubs were no more packed than any other Saturday night because so many people opt to stay at home and have a house parties nowadays :D

It's 24-hour drinking from today, most pubs haven't applied for it though. Here's a couple of links to events in London.

And here's a link that has some of the best hotel deals.

Myself and the buddies are renting a few adjoining houses down in the Beara Penninsula in West Cork, heading down Friday 30th, until Monday 2nd. Stocking the place up with an inordinate amount of booze, loads of decent grub, dvds and music. Sample the local fare around the place also, and hopefully ring in the new year under a starry sky near the sea.

Last year was my first time in town in Cork on new years since 1997, and never, ever again. Too packed, and not enough bar staff. At one point I spend 40 mins in the queue for the bar  .

    West Cork all the way.
