SE €75 Double chanc-report

    Haven’t played live for a while and haven’t been in Emporium yet so had a nice excuse to do both in the €75 double chance last night. BTW there were just 20 runners so 2 tables of 10. Lovely place, very friendly staff, dealers quite good and they now have a tournament clock up. Some details may be sketchy.

    Starting stack is 2k with 2k extra anytime you want. Blinds 25/50 and the 1st 3 levels are 30mins so plenty of time. 1st hand I got 77 and call a 200 bet along with 1 other, flop of AKQ, I fold to a bet. This was the best hand I would see at this level until the very last hand. I was dealt As4s in the bb, 5 limpers and me see a flop of Ks 10s 3c. By this stage I got my extra chips so had 3.8k. UTG, a bit crazy but decent bets 300, 1 caller so I call. The turn is an ace, i'm now 95% sure im ahead of these 2 based on their play in the last 25mins. I check,UTG bets 600, again there is a caller. I push, knowing im ahead and if not I have outs, i’m happy to take it down here though. UTG has 4.5k, he folds, caller has just another 1k and he calls with KQ, a 4 on the river takes it down for me. I now have roughly 6.5k, with blinds going up to 50/100.

    Didn’t really do too much during the next 2 levels, there was a maniac to my left that seemed to be hitting everything and he was making some really strange plays. He was decent enough though. After the break the clock was reduced to 20mins and blinds 100/200, I still have roughly5.5k(not sure were I lost 1k!). Couple interesting hands here, the 1st was when I get AK utg and I make it 700, folded to bb(small bets bluff at wrong time, raises with premium hands but calls raises with A2 etc) who calls. The flop is 10 9 4 rainbow, he bets out 500, a weak bet but it’s a flop that may have hit him, I push allin, he folds showing 55.

    So i’m now back up to 6.5k and 2nd in chips at table, the guy beside me to left is chip leader (the strange player) with around 10k. I get AdKd UTG+1 and as i’m fiddling with my chips he accidentally limps for 200.(he tends to raise with any ace, pairs etc, will limp any 2 suited). So with this info I increase my raise, making it 900 to play. As expected he calls and we both see a very interesting flop of 10d 10c Jd. So now ive the nut flush draw, a gutshot straight draw, and 2 overs to the board. I bet 1200, he pushes in straight away. Now ive a decision for all my chips. He is not one to slowplay (earlier he had called a raise with Js2s, the flop came 3 spades, he didn’t even check to raiser and automatically pushed his big stack all-in) so this comes into my mind. If he has jus the jack I have to call because ive so many outs(15 in otal twice). If he has a 10 i’m reduced to 9 outs, and I would now need a diamond that dosent pair the board by river. I have enough chips to fold, I will have 4.5k with 100/200 blinds. I think for a long time and call and am totally shocked to see him flip Qd2d!!!(in fairness to him it was a very nice move postflop and I wouldn’t expect him to be capable of doing this move…terrible preflop though). Hes drawing to only 3 outs!the diamond hits the turn and I win a huge pot, making me clear chip leader

    I now have about 14k and play the stack nicely picking up pots here and there in the next 2 levels. I make it clear I wont stand or my blinds being robbed aswell and stare down a few people who keep showing me their hands o prove their not robbing as they know I can take them out at any stage. There was 1 tough decision at the 300/600 level, ive roughly 15k, i’m in the sb and its 6 handed. UTG makes it 2500(he tends to raise 3bbs with ak,aq, and raises more when he dosent really wanna play flop. I reckon he has 22-JJ. He is the player I rate most highly at the table and is a very good tight-aggressive player. He has about 4k behind him after this raise, I have AQ. I think for a good while and fold, i’m still not sure if this was right. Comments?

    We form the final table of 10 instead of playing 5handed, blinds are now 400/800, I have about 19.5k(stole a few pots). The action starts slowly and nothing much happens. The 2 players on my right(the guy on my immediate right is the TAG above) are good, as well as they guy to my immediate left. Harold the rock is there but apart from these the others aren’t too great from what ive seen. I win a couple of small pots early on(nice hands) and am clear chip leader. 2 players fall are out fairly sharpish but we play 8handed for a while. I get KK and raise to 2.5k in EP, shorstack goes allin for 2.4k and I get 1 other caller(seems decent). The flop of 789 rainbow isn’t the best in the world, and the caller fires a 1.5k bet at the pot. Ive seen him make a nice slowplay by check calling all the way and the bet seems to show weakness instead of strength. I push and he folds. Shorstack has nothing and I take down about an 8k pot to increase my lead. 2 hands later I get 99 utg and limp, 5 of us 7 see a flop of 9d 7d 3s. The blinds check, I bet(as I know it will be checked around from the play) 2.4k an veryone folds. Next hand I get AQ(the deck smacked me in the face in these 5mins) on the bb, and again we get 4 limpers(Harold didn’t limp BTW). I push allin, everyone folds and I show as people thought I was robbing all the time. As well I want to give them the image that I wont tolerate any messing on my bb. My stack is now rougly 28k(by no means exact) with blinds moving to 500/1000.

    A great hand happens at this level. Harold limps utg(WARNING!!!!) and shorstack goes allin for about 6k, the guy to my left(good) thinks and pushes his 10k in. Harold has about 6k and calls showing ACES. wp. The guy to my left has 1010, and shorstak has k3!Harold trebles up and we lose a player. 2 hands later I get QJ clubs utg+1.I make it 3.5k and guy to my left goes allin for last 4.5k, I call and he has aces. The flop is this: Kc 9c 10c, i flop a king high straight flush and the aces are drawing dead! wow! it must be my night!!

    We then lose a shorstack an were down to 4. I have roughly 27k, Harold 13k, Randomer(not great at all, some moves) has 23k, and TAG has 17k. Blinds go up to 800/1500 when this crucial hand happens. I raise UTG with a5 diamonds to 6,000. Randomer in bb calls. The flop is Ac Qc 9s. The bb then pushes his big stack in( no slowplay, raises hit, tiny bets bluff always). Hmmm, this is a toughie. If I call and win i’m in total control, if I call and lose i’m practically out. The prize fund is:
    1st = 675
    2nd=375
    3rd=225
    4th=150
    5th=75

    I think a long time and then he says something along the lines of “ive a monster”. However when he says this hes weak as I noticed earlier. However he always bets small when bluffing. I shoulda went with my read but I folded and he show KJ ith no club. Nice bet.

    I then steal here and there and your man gives most of his stack away to the TAG. I raise utg with QJ spades this time to 6k(blinds 1000/2000). Ive 27k. Randomer goes allin for 12k. I’m getting jus over 3:1 with blinds in pot and call. He has ace 3 and I flop 2 pair and make a boat by the river. I LOVE QJ suited now!!! He cries as if its the worst bad beat in history, gg ul bye bye.

    Harolds tighness has seen his stack diminish to 7k and its my button his sb. I raise to 6k with Qc8c and he goes allin, I call and he has AK. The flop is A88, and Harold is out in 3rd. Now I know ive come from behind 3 times here but every time ive been the aggressor and getting pot odds to call and always up against a small stack. Me and the TAG are both very even and with blinds goin up we chop it 50 50 taking €500 each.

    A very enjoyable night, nice place and nice staff as well as very good tourney set-up

    Very well done on the win, good report too, just hope you havnt given too much away about your style of play!! look forward to playin against you! lol
    the numbers are bound to increase when the problem regarding parking is sorted. the underground car park is nearly ready for use by SE customers, and hopefully that coupled with the long blinds should see numbers rise.
    Well done again Willis

    Hey, good report m8. I've just started up my own poker website www.irishpokeronline.com and it might be a nice idea if i put reviews like yours onto the site where i list the different poker clubs. Do you mind if i submit it on the site?

    Also, does anyone have details for SE so i can put it on the site?

    Cheers

    Well done Willis, you played well at that final table. I was the poor soul with AA and I went out in 4th place in the very same tourney last week when my AA was sucked by 10-10 who hit a str8.
    Harold limps utg(WARNING!!!!)
    I was concerned about Harold behind me in this hand, but he had limp folded a couple of times previous and my read on shortstack was spot on. Really thought he'd fold here hence push.

    Great venue and tourney though, and a shame the numbers are so disappointing but that will improve I'm sure.

    Well done and well played.

    Very good review. You should get a job in the irish times when your not playing poker!

    Yeah snapper id noticed that hed limp folded a couple of times aswell so i wouldnt criticise your play here at all. You made a nice read on the guy who pushed before you and were unlucky harold was so strong.TBH i was glad to see the back of you...felt you and the northern guy to my right were the 2 strongest players at the final table.

    Besta luck and well played

    P.S. Banana-man i would be more than happy to see my review on your site, cheers
