My first live tourney Win/Cash!!

Decided I wanted some more live poker last night so I popped along to the 20€ Limit Holdem rebuy (4€ reg fee) in the local card casino. For 20€ you get 1500, rebuy 1500 and add-on 3000 for 20€. Prizepool is 2k Guaranteed but money comes out of that for some Jackpot and for dealers (automatically deducted). So prizepool about 1800€.

Last time I played this I thought it was a crapshoot. We ended up with 11 at our table and getting in less than 1 round per level (about 20-25 mins), which were rising pretty quickly imo!!

Last night however it wasn't so bad. They only had 3 tables set up for the game. Then they added a 10th person to each table and eventually made a fourth table when some more turned up. So 33 runners and we were off. ( handed was nice and it moved pretty quickly.

Everyone started off crazily loose (even for limit) and there were quite a few rebuys. There was me and one other player on my table who played pretty tight in the rebuy period. I ehad to rebuy towards the end of level 2 and wasn't getting much action on my good hands (surprising that!). I even showed down 10 9 once from the button after raising preflop and playing it quite aggressivly on an 89J flop. The guy who called me all the way from utg (called BB and then my raise preflop) also turned over 10 9! Bah, it's not just online that happens then!

At the break (after level 3), I had about 7k including the add-on. Average stack was probably about 8 or 9k. Level was something like 500/1000 which leave much room to do much for anyone. I continued playing pretty tight and took down a few pots without getting to showdown. A raise preflop and betting the flop and turn usually took the pots whether I hit or not :) Stole a few pots here and there and then we were down to 2 tables. I was pretty much always a few thousand above average from shortly after the break.

Anyways made final table and with 6 being paid and 2 short stacks, i'm lying about 3rd I was taking it handy initially. Once down to 7 play really tightened up. Storkstacks had at most 3 big bets. I pushed some of them off a few pots using my position and their fear of not making the money.

Eventually we got to the money and quickly lost the shortest stack. Then I look down in the sb (level 3k/6k) and see KK. Well hello!! Folded round to me so I raise. BB reraises. He's got about 22k i've got about 26k so i'm looking to get as much as possible here. If he's AA so be it. I call. Flop comes down 89J. This guy was quite loose so this could be dangerous. I decide to bet out and see what he does. He flat calls. I think i'm ahead here. Turn I bet and again he calls. Then my inexperience of live poker kicked in. I see him play with his chips getting ready to bet and I check. He checks behind and flips over AK. I realised after the hand that that a final 6k bet on the river would have put him all-in! Doh! Or was it? Still it was a huge pot!

Now i'm chip leader and decide to sit tight again. Eventually take another short stack out and steal a pot or 2 as the blinds are getting really high. Eventually down to 3 and a deal is proposed. I've got 62k, CL has about 70k and other guy has 44k. Level is now 5k/10k so I'm thinking a deal is definitely a good idea here. CL decides a 520/520/445 split is fair so who am I to argue! The other guy was happy too and i'm happy i've bagged my first live tournament win and also my first live tournament cash!

Now i'm looking forward to being in Dublin in 2 weeks where I can play some of those NL tournaments that most of you take for granted :)

Nice one imposter. I wouldnt worry too much about that KK hand. He probably would have folded it on the river. Then again he should have folded it before then so if hes bad hes bad.

I think what it boils down to is me needing to learn how to play limit properly. I think I cost myself quite a few chips last night by not betting when I should have, be that on the river or while waiting for my draws to hit. My inexperience playing live was probably also a factor though (it was only my 4th live tournament, as well a 3 cash games).

We don't know what happened on the turn and the river, but you almost certainly should have bet and he almost certainly should have called. Maybe Nicky OD could confirm this.

I got it in 100's so it wasn't that thick! They just don't fit in normal size wallets all that well though, not that I was going to complain about that :)

Rounders turn was a low rag and river was a 9.

The thing Ive learned about limit is always bet. Nothing sweeter than takeing down a massive pot on the river with 5 high. Also he almost has to call with ace high.

    Congrats on the win.

So they decided to start a PL Omaha game on a friday night. Again 20€ buy-in/rebuys/add-on.

Most of the 20 or so players hadn't a clue. Structure was a bit crap as we only started with 30BB's. PL confused the hell out of them as most are used to Limit games :)

So I went and came joint first again. This time for 600€.
Got very very lucky when down to 5 when I got caught with my hand in the cookie jar and miraculously caught a perfect board for my crap hand.

    I think I found a new home! :D
