I hate people who say that. If you can't solve the OP's problem other than saying "using FF" then say nothing.

    *Rant over*

To OP. I'm using IE6 and not experiencing any probs.

hmm. I was just worried it could be some dodgy spyware, maybe something trying to grab my password.

you generelly get this message if a page contains a mix of secure and unsecure data. So the page could be secure (https) but an image could be coming from another unsecure (http) page and hence the warning message. Most times its legit.

Run a scan if ur unsure.

You hate people who express there opinion on boards.

I happen to believe that firefox is much better than IE6, not just because of the enhanced security but for ease of browsing etc...

You must have some serious issues if you have to "RANT" at people on Boards.

Get over yourself man, just deal with the fact that other people like different things than yourself and different programs than you do and if you can't, then i personally would rather not here you moaning at how you hate people who do.

WOW that got a bit serious there...

Any way just my OPINION man.

i have no problem with people expressing their opinion, that was what i was doing above. But telling someone to use FF is not a solution to their problem. I wouldn't tell someone having a windows related problem to switch to linux, would u?

Anyway I seem to recall suggesting FF/linux as a solution was a bannable offense. Is this still the case?

Now im a FF, Opera and IE user. I mix and match. But I understand what irlrobins is saying. Just by running around telling people how great FF is does not help anyone? It doesn't answer the question that rubadub asked. Its getting annoying that whenever someone posts a IE query someone says use FF. It IS great but thats beside the point.

Oh and to answer rubadub's question, yeah I'm getting the same thing. Don't think its any kind of malware. They probably just changed something on the login page.

    But just to be sure...

Ban away i wont retract or change what i said.

What i will say is that, FF isn't a complete solution but more of an upgrade IMO.

    Nothing is ever perfect...

But as i use it to access Gmail amoung other things and have no problems then i thought it only right to at least give the user one solution (And it is a solution because it alleviates the problem) that will relieve the problem.

And i just said change to Mozilla, as i believe it would benefit the user, but hey im not forcing the guy or twisting his arm.

The reason i say bring up Mozilla aswell is that alot of users arent aware of it and think that IE6 is the only option.
I wouldn't tell someone having a windows related problem to switch to linux, would u?

Id make sure they knew that there were other OS available but in general, No I wouldn't but the difference is that FF IMO is easier to use than IE6.

Maybe a novice user wouldn't feel the same.

Anyway if you look below no one has actually given the guy a resolution, I have.

Thanks for the advice. I will stick with IE for the moment. I use the PC in work and do not want to change anything on it yet. I have heard of FF before and had it recommended, didnt realise there was so much aggro about mentioning it. I guess it was simply since it was a blunt "dont use ie, use FF" answer, sort of like the whole ipod/other mp3 player wars that go on here too, people hating the standard issue stuff.

I have looked a bit on google and see no problems with it, I was just making sure. I scanned and am clean

Its in the charter, you should be getting a one day ban. :D

yea its a message everyone will get, I just got it on another PC using IE. I normally use notifier to access my inbox, hence why I didn't see it on my PC.

As I said its just a warning from IE, in case something dodgy was occuring. In this case it doesn't appear to be. So there's no real problem.

I expect the message will disappear soon once gmail adjusts the page again.

I don' use IE myself, but the reason your getting pop up boxes is because your security settings are fairly high. Does this happen on any other sites? If so, it must be very annoying right?

Your going to need to get a balance. Just because IE says something is insecure doesn't necessarily mean its dangerous, although it could be. Items in your security settings will often have three options. disable, enable or prompt. prompt will pop up a box. (v. annoying)

Just make sure to scan regularily for spyware/malware etc.

    From Charter:
Unhelpful comments (e.g. "switch to linux" when encountering a windows problem) will result in a one day ban.
Firstly, you broke the charter by giving unhelpful comments. Its like someone saying "Whenever i log into windows, an annoying box appears, how do i fix it" and someone posts "use linux".

Secondly, you havn't given a resolution. You've just told him to ignore the problem. A resolution would be telling him to go into his IE settings and searching through his security settings and change the relevant option (i.e. try setting em to "Medium" to see if that'd solve the problem).

Funny, I got the same thing earlier with FF 1.0.7, maybe I should go back to IE.
