Just spotted this on the Xbox Ireland website, the price of XBox 360 Professional is €399, I thought that it was going to be more expensive in Ireland, yes no?

You'll find most places (xtravision/gamestop/smyths etc) are charging €409.99.

I think Dixons are selling at €399.99

I put a preorder in with amazon uk about at the begining of October. I have a feeling that I won't see it this side of xmas. There were stories about shops in the US having to raffle less than 20 units to over 100 customers with Microsoft telling some of the shops that they could only expect 10 units a week for the rest of the year. Great marketing for them though...

dixons took pre orders but should be getting more than then they thought but wont take any more pre orders. so queue on friday then...

There seems to be a few reports of defective units in the US. I was reading on cnannel 4 text that some machines are apparently crashing. I also came accross this :
    http://ve3dboards.ign.com/Message.aspx?topic=22394716

I guess it is to be expected with the launch units but it would still be crap to get a defective one. I was also reading that they didn't do their final certifictation check on Perfect Dark in order to get it out on release day.

If we did that in work with our software and problems were found, we'd be killed.

95% of defective units are caused to people not realising that the 360 is a small case, with a 3 core power pc CPU, and a powerful GPU, IN SUCH A TINY CASE, forums on xbox-scene seem to be that people that have no problems that have the console lying FLAT with PLENTY of airflow on all sides, and in some cases, even rasied by the corners of the surface it is on, also keep the power supply away from other devices, and also with good ventalation, if you plan on slotting this bad boy in between your dvd player, ss decoder, and gamecube, you can beat your sorry ass youll get errors, crashes, and flashing red lights within 20mins

well i guess that puts paid to it being any sort of home entertainment centre like MS have been spouting for the last year, it smacks of bad design if the machines overheat when placed near other devices. At the end of the day the 360 is supposed to be a console (albeit a fantastic advanced console) but a console all the same and as such should be designed to work when surrounded by the detritus of a modern living room (sat decoder, dvd recorder, vcr etc)

hopefully these problems will be sorted out in the next revision which should be here by the time stock levels are at something resembling normalcy

i sugest that you should not get the 360 till you have heard all about it it crashes alot and everything

We were informed today that Microsoft will be shipping much fewer units than had been initially promised. And there's a huge shortage of hard drives. So whats probably gonna happen is that there will be more core systems available at launch. So if you're not sure if you can get a premium bundle at launch and you can get your hands on a core, then defo take it. Very dissapointing on Microsoft's part.

I'd say the rumour that there's going to be a shortage of professional 360 packs available is true, I reckon Microsoft have purposely created a 'shortage' of the premium packs as to flog as many of the core packages as possible, in the hope that people on the day of launch will be so caught up the hype that they'll take the core as just to have a 360 regardless of whether or not they originally pre ordered a pro pack. Cynical, cynical ploy by Microsoft...

Looks to be the case alright. And it'll work with me on launch day. I've pre-ordered the premium pack through the job and i'll be happy if I get the console at all in any shape now.

Well, whatever happens. Make sure you've got the requisite piece of string.

It really does go to show you doesn't it.

"Dumb Americans in Xbox 360's power adapter left on the floor overheating SHOCKER"

For ****s sake, I bet a lot of these Xbox 360's crashing stories are down to the stupidity of the average American... "Why did my 360 crash?, surely it's nothing to do with fact I placed it on the floor with a frilly carpet and no ventilation for cooling?"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 545 ✭✭✭OY

Yeah, people are so dumb for placing their power adaptors on the floor, right next to the power outlets and everything!
And since when do you need sufficient ventilation to play computer games?

My trusty Gamecube has never crashed on me and i left it on overnight to unlock characters in Super Smash Brothers... and it was on my carpet floor?

    :)

So you're telling me, that placing an object that generates a lot of heat on a 'carpeted' floor wouldn't contribute to a machine such as an Xbox 360 overheating and crashing?, what about the people with longer haired carpets which prevent the cooling fans on the back of the 360 working properly?, that would have no implication to overheating I presume?.

I am not disputing wit with you that placing the power source on the carpet is the problem here. I am asking when this has happened before. And i am working off my own experience. I have never, nor have i known anyone to have this problem with any other console.

I could be wrong, have there been complaints about other consoles and this happening?

The reason I made my rant about dumb Americans is because, having pre ordered a 360, I was worried when I found out that a good few peoples 360's were overheating and crashing when brought home from the day of launch in the U.S last week, when pics of their 'crashed' 360's hit the net, it made me laugh to see a good few of their 360's sitting in the midst of three inch carpets, I even saw one guys picture with a soldering iron plugged in next to his machine. I'm a lot more relaxed about the 360 crashing issue now, now that I know it can be avoided by simple common sense..

yep the common sense being wait till the next revision:D

seriously though I hope these crash problems are silly american/common sense issues cos i can imagine a lot of disappointed peeps at xmas if it is a harware fault

I think the problem is a little more than people placing the console or PSU in a place where it can overheat.
    Looking at this post:
    http://www.gamespot.com/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=23998153&page=15

There are people who have tried using it in several positions, not putting it on a carpet and raising the PSU off the ground but still not getting more than 20 mins before a crash. So it does look like there are quite a few defective units. I think MS will probably have to replace the PSUs again.
