looks like delta is falling apart. now down to 60mph winds. the five day forcast heads it towards the Canaries, but at present it is still heading southwest.

surf's up in the canaries then :D

That said, Tans down for the next couple of days too

Absolutely incredible season. These hurricanes have to be having an effect on the sst's in the atlantic-both those that exited out of the american continent in the North atlatic and these later ones that reverted back eastwards.

The theory is they drag the overall sst down by stirring up the waters and bringing the colder water to the surface.
It's probably having more of an effect in the more northern areas than the likes of Delta is in the south as theres less solar radiation up north to reheat the sst's.

Translation-It's good for snow lovers possibly as it could mean a less active atlantic later in the winter for us and more easterlies :D

Anyone fancy a hurricane chase to the Canaries?? :D;)

Even if it is hurricane strength now, it'll have weakened a lot by the time it reaches The Canary Islands, though there could still be gale force winds, which is something similar to what we got earlier this month on the 7th.

for a second time Delta was within a whisker of becoming a hurricane, but it was not to be, winds are down to 65mph. and it looks doubtful that they will pick up.

outer bands reaching La Palma and Tenneriffe already according to the radar.

Parts of Canaries getting a pounding. 93mph gust on La Palma and 71mph mean speed (Gust 86mph) on Tenerife at 617m.

This storm did not weaken at all or was underestimated earlier.

My inlaws are on Tenerife at moment

I'll give a report in few days.

Delta has resulted in 7 deaths in the Canary Islands, with a further 12 missing. its well and good getting all excited about hurricanes and tropical storms, a thought needs to be spared for anyone affected by these storms however.
