That dell has a low contrast rate and a 25ms response time. Wont be the best for games. Would I be right in thinking the decision to buy a hdtv is partly to do with the release of the xbox360

Here's what I'm looking at for when I get my 360

    Any comments on this LCD?

Hmm, well, I am looking at the Dell 26' on the other tab, I guess its much better than this one - simply because this one 'supports HD with component inputs' where as the Dell W2600 is a proper HDTV? Or.. Is it really? It says its 'HD Ready'? Anyone know whats the difference?

    thanks in advance!

DID are doing a LG 32" HD LCD for €1199

Nice TV, a neighbour just got one!

Okay, I think I am slightly clearer on this now.

'HD Ready' means the tv can display HD input, supports 720 lines minimum display width etc etc, where as the Sharp LCD in question is basically not even HD ready - its just compressing HD tuner/STB output into 520 lines or whatever. Any comments?

Incidentally, Samsung are supplying a 23" version of this to Microsoft to use in their Xbox 360 demotration stands. Saw one in my local Gamestop and was very impressed. The LE26R41B model seems to be much the same but with lower constrast ratio and lower price.

Yes I've played the 360 in town on those samsung screens and the picture looks great. Also I have a samsung monitor at home for gaming and its fantastic. Such a good picture. They seem reliable and have good picture quality and importantly low response times. Thats why I'm going with the bigger version of the one on display with the 360. Though I think it might be worth waiting until january to get both the 360 and the tv. Would rather not get one of the first batch of xboxes. Seems to be some issues with them also the price of LCD's will probably drop a bit in the January sales.

I was told by somebody in the know NOT to get one before Christmas as there will be "big" reductions in the new year especially on NON HDTV ready screens.

I wouldn't get an xbox 360 anyway until i see what it looks like on a non HD tv.
it's very misleading to show them instore on HDTV's when the majority of people will not have them..

That Dell one looks like a steal though

Cheers for confirming my tip. Can you give us anymore info though. Roughly how long into the new year are we talking before we see these reductions? Also whats peoples opinions on DLP HD tvs? Worth it for the extra size or is the picture quality noticibly lower

Yeah muppetkiller thats true but for those getting hdtvs its great

Customer review on the Dell here: http://www.epinions.com/Dell_W2600_LCD_TV_26/display_~reviews

It certainly is cheap, but the response time and viewing angles are pretty poor.

As regard prices dropping, any new technology is going to drop in price after a while. I'm thinking of getting an xbox 360 when it gets it's first price drop (hopefully in the spring or summer when Sony are close to releasing the PS3), and I hope HDTVs will have dropped in price by then.

Apologies for going slightly off the point here, but here is a link where they compare picture on a Xbox 360 using different resolutions and cables:
