Can anyone give a bit of background on this oddity?

    http://www.koreus.com/media/fair-play.html

I'm presuming the ball was put into touch so an injured player could get treatment. Was the Ajax player shooting for goal or trying to give the ball back to a dozy keeper?

Regardless, I would have thought what ensued would be completely against the rules, fair or not.

That's classic. Looks like a reserve game. He was knocking it back to the keeper because an Ajax player needed treatment and their opponents sportingly knocked it out of play. Obviously he made a balls of it. When Ajax let them score a goal the state of the pass from the full back under no pressure at all is comical, his team mate has to sprint to keep it in and score.

Didnt something like that happen in a Plymouth game last season, where a back pass after an injury was fluffed by the keeper, then the manager ordered his team to step aside and let the other team knock one straight back?

    Great sportsmanship.

Yeah, exactly what you said, he was knocking it back to the keeper after an injury, accidnetally scored, apologises and they let the opposition grab one back.
They were 3-0 up, mind, so they could probably afford the generosity.
