Rock Climbing /+/ Gear?

    Hey,

I've tried an hour or two of rock climbing before(indoor) a while ago and I want to give it another bash. I plan on buying some gear for it in the sales after christmas and I was wondering if some climbers could give some advice.
What I will need, shoes, harnesses, clips, ropes??... where to go to buy it.
Is there anywhere especially good during the sales? I was also thinking that flights are so cheap that maybe even going over to the uk or somewhere close for the sales might be cheaper?
    Info for the new like.

    Many thanks in advance.

You might get more replies in the outdoor pursuits forum. For a start you can't climb on your own. The sales in this country are never any good and as for shoes, the selection is poor and the shops will lie to you just to sell you shoes. You are probably better off starting with a club. Start off with shoes, a chalk bag, harness, belay device and HMS karabiner. Climbing gear is expensive and at this satage you don't need a rope or protection as you won't be leading for a while. Check out climbing.ie and see their forums for info. Westwood Clontarf have a new climbing club too if you are interested.
