Question on NTL "Go Digital" package

Wondering if anyone can shed any light on this.

We signed up for NTL's basic digital pack (as well as the sports & movies pack, to try that out) after weeks of their pawns in sales ringing us and asking us to. I repeatedly spoke to one of the girls there and asked her numerous times to confirm that we would get all the music and entertainment channels with that package and she repeatedly said we would. Anyway, it was installed yesterday and it's working fine apart from the channels above (such as MTV2, Kerrang!, Living etc) were telling us we hadn't subscribed to them. I thought it might just be a glitch and just kept checking them every now and then during the day, but emailed them last night (because their 8am-9pm support line was closed at 8.30pm) to ask what the story was. Their reply this morning said we had only signed up to the "select" package which meant we only recieve half the basic stations, i.e. none of the channels we actually wanted it for. I'm guessing to get the other half will mean substantially more cash.

Not once was it mentioned on the phone that these would cost more. Obviously I have no record of the sales girl telling me this, but we have very little use for the service without those channels.

Do I have a leg to stand on in getting the contract voided if it stays this way? Seriously considering dumping their whole service and getting Sky after this horsesh*t.

    Cheers guys.

Just scanning the ntl.ie website and there is no mention of seperate packages for the "basic" digital service.

Heres the UK select package clicky.

Have they just introduced this here, how much are you paying for "Select"?

    Mike.

There is a select package and a max package. The difference is a whopping 5 Euro.

Select exists, but NTL don't advertise it on their site.

Select has less then half the channels of "Max" and costs €5 per month

Max has all channels (except Sky sport and movies, FilmFour or PPV channels) and costs €10 per month.

This is the cost on top of the analogue charge (€19).

If they sold you the package under false pretense, then you can get out of it under "SALE OF GOODS AND SUPPLY OF SERVICES ACT, 1980" as the servcie is not as described.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I caved in and just agreed to pay the extra five quid. Not worth the hassle for that much money, and NOT taking the extra channels would get me a lot more hassle from everyone at home :/

Edit: sorry yea it's €5 for Select and it doesn't seem to have as many channels as the UK version!

Edit 2: Also, completely off topic but does anyone know if it's possible to change the "mini-tv" channel when browsing the guide? It's stuck on that poxy City Channel and it's driving me mad :)

No! We have ITN down here.

No you can't. I think they pay to be there. It used to be ITV news which was quite good, informative. I think before that it was E4. Either of these were superior to 'Which is the best cake shop on Baggot St.' etc.

The window is intended for Front Row Previews - ie trailers for PPV movies - but it has never been that down here and Front Row is no longer offered in ROI. Not sure why it was ITN or before that E4, but City Channel is on it as part of its carrige deal with NTL.

The Select package...believe its a way of trying to entice analogue customer's to go digital. As stated above, NTL don't market it at all.

The reason ITN/ITV News Channel was there was that the original ITN News Channel was part owned by NTL.
