    Hi All,
This is my first post so go easy on me. I am sure this has been answered a million times so apologies in advance. I am new to this sattelite technology. My question is can i just go out and buy a dish and digibox and get some free channels, if so what channels are available and where would i buy the equipment cheap? Gonna shop around tomorrow arouns the city centre. Any advice would be really helpful.
    Thanks
    Sham....

Welcome, BBC and ITV are probably the most popular FTA channels that come from the astra 2 satellite. Take a look at www.lyngsat.com. I'm not sure you will find much in town apart from maplins. Take a look at the sticky for retailers.

    Good luck

    Hi Sham,
Why not take a look at satellite.ie , I think everyone who has bought equipment from Tony has been happy with the level of service.

About 70 radio and about 20 decent TV and 200 rubbish TV all FTA from 28.2 East.

About 100 Euro adds a motor and then you get about 20 different satellites. BUT not with a Sky Digibox, you need a FTA receiver from www.satellite.ie or Maplin for that.

I have had a FTA receiver (Palcom) and Motek motor for a couple of years from www.satellite.ie and 100% good no problems. Using a cheap 80cm dish from a Lidl analog system and a Lidl €7 LNB.

I too am a happy customer of satellite.ie

before you buy anything I suggest you buy a copy of What Satellite magazine and do a bit of reading. Knowledge is everything. ask questions here. dont worry, we've heard them all before.

I have Sky+ with one multiroom subscription. I also have an old Sky Digibox. In order to get the FTA channels do I need to get a FTA card on Ebay? I am confused by the fact that Maplins are offering a FTA system but there is no mention of a FTA card in their package?

FTA channels don't need to be decrypted and so don't need a card of any sort.

If you're thinking of FTV channels, you would need a Sky digibox (not a FTA STB) and a FTV card to receive channel 4, five and Sky Three.
