Splitting the signal from dish

My brother has kindly donated his sky box to me as he has cancelled his subscription - is it possible to split the signal from a signal LNB cabe to divert to a second box ? Does the signal detoriate or would I need to get a quad box to the second decoder to get the best reception.

The cable runs right past the bedroom I want to put the second box in so splitting would be a simple option ?

    Any recommendations..?

Ok you can't split a Sat cable this way, you would need a seperate feed to the box using a dual or quad LNB, the digibox adds voltage to the cable to get the LNB to switch into higher or lower frequencies so if you just split it the way you say neither box would work properly at all.

No, you cant feed/split 2 boxes off a single LNB. You would need a dual or (ideally) a quad LNB.

If its a sky type dish (mesh) you need a quad output LNB as they do not make twin outputs anymore AFAIK. Pretty staright forward to set up for a DIY job.

My brother's now defunct dish has a dual LNB and mine has a single - is it easy to plug one out and replace with the other..?

Depends on what dish type you/he has. Sky dish lnbs are not interchangeable with standard dishes and vice versa

    Hi
I’m new to this forum (after hearing it on Today FM giving out details about tuning in ITV!)
I hope somebody can give me an opinion if anybody has a vested interest in this I would be grateful!
My question is advantages/disadvantages of getting either a DVDRecorder HDD or SKY+ (& when is the Sky-160GB coming out? -I saw the pic inside an old Sky mag I found dated Nov “04)
    I’ve seen the Sky+ offers come down in price OCT= Euro299-E149cashback. NOV=E69!
    :) ADV.= is the cheap price –sky+
    DISADV. = E15+E21.50 (Ent. 2mix) without the premium channels = E36.50
E50.50 with 2 premium channels + also with the two is 3mths half-price offer!
IF THERE ARE ANY MORE ADV/DISADV. PLEASE COMMENT.

DVD Recorders retail at E140-199/HDD-E399 (Phillips 80GB Model I was shown recently!) (ALDI’S had a 160GB model at E350 a few mths ago!)
 DISADV. = As the Sky+ may come in handy for taping clashes but on Sky Digital only
& then if the space/ limit is up, you send it to the VCR/DVDR.
    .
:) ADV. = The advent of technology is/is it Dvd Recorders?
The retailer happened to mention as they do! (Right after I mentioned the Sky+ offer for E69!) That DVDR’s have their own EPG & PAUSE ANALOGUE LIVE TV  (debatable) which stopped me in my tracks & asking ‘techie’ questions about it.

So there you have it, (My Christmas list) but if anyone has it off to a tee! I sure will be more than glad to listen.

    Thank you,:)

you're not my cousin by any chance? Big county, common enough initial though... (checked profile, yer not)

This should really be a new thread, but:

Sky+ 160 is already out. The Aldi 160GB HDD recorder is bloody unreliable (got one in front of me...)

Most DVD-RAM systems can pause live TV, from any source. They don't generally have an EPG. All HDD systems can pause live TV from any source, and again, usually don't have an EPG.

Sky+ has the advantage of allowing you to record one Sky channel and watch another, but you can always get a FTA satellite PVR, which will let you record FTA channels when watching another.

Dont mean to hijack someone elses thread but Ive just noticed that my dish has "quad lnb" wrote on the lnb.Does this mean I can run another 2 feeds from the dish to 2 more TVs???

Quad LNB's have 4 outputs. If it has 4 outputs, then you can fire up 4 receivers.

A PVR is any form of digital video recorder that uses rewritable media - a DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM or HDD recorder is a PVR.
