Is there warranty on replacement Sky+ boxes?

Here's the deal. I subscribed to Sky+ in Oct 2003. In Oct 2004 Sky+ box was replaced under warranty due to a fault with the favourite channels. Now in 2005 the replacement box is failing on recordings since the sw upgrade last September. I logged a call in Sept and have reformatted the box four times since then. However it only lasts about 10 days before recordings start to fail. The box goes down during recording, I have to cycle the power before i can get it back.

Question is does the replacement box also carry a warranty or am I effectivly 24 months into my Sky+ contract and not covered?

Looking for some pointers before phoning Sky.

i am in the same boat as yourself,
    my sky plus is broken,
have had it since 2003 and now its busted,
i rang sky today and after waiting for 30 minutes i was told that it would cost 108 euro for an engineer to call out to me,
i told the lady that i am aware of the issue regarding their boxes since the software update and that her engineer was just going to call to my house and swap my box for a reconditioned unit,
she said yes and asked if i would like to go ahead with it,
i then asked what was the situation with the warranty on the reconditioned box,
    its 90 days !
    not good enough methinks !
i am gonna have a nosey about first and see if i can sort something myself first,
    hope this helped.

I have a similar problem. My sky+ box gave up the ghost, i rang sky and they tried to restore etc which did'nt work, they then sugested i get a reconditioned replacement which would cost the service call, since i have multiroom they sugested I get 2 new sky+ boxes for 139 euros without the service charge. I thought that was a better deal except i have to wait till 1st Dec for delivery ,the order was put in 2 weeks ago!!. Their servive has gone to hell. At one stage i waited 45 mins to get thru, how do they get new customers at all??

have been looking around the net and i am getting the impression that my hard drive is knacked,
i am gonna upgrade the hdd now,
    thinking of a samsung 250gig,
it seems to be a pretty good drive to go with from the posts i have been reading,
and if it does'nt work i'll pop it into my xobox !
    lol

The box went down again last night and this time it took my entire Sky+ planner/recordings with it, wiped everything. When it came back no Sky+ functions would work so I had to carry out another full reset (5 in 10 weeks). Rang Sky last night, recording said expect to wait 58minutes. Went to bed unhappy.

Phoned Sky this morning and waited 27minutes to be told, as I expected, it's a €108 engineer call. Asked would they do it as a goodwill gesture. Pointed out I'm paying €600 a year for a service they are having trouble providing but I was told they couldn't. End of story. Looks like its another reconditioned box for me, my third Sky+ box in ~24months.

    Holy moley.

One question. You dont have the Sky+ box too well tucked away? Sky+ boxes, even more than the regular boxes, need plenty of space for ventilation.

That's interesting, I have my second digibox on top of my sky+ box. It's propped up on 3/4inch blocks in order to give ventilation to the top of the Sky+ box but from the sounds it may not be a good idea.

I'd have had the Sky+ box on top. An inch to spare might not be sufficient.

Call sky and cancel your sub. when they ask why, explain your situation (will not pay to fix their problem from last update) and you should get a free service call after they 'check with supervisor'

I done this a few months ago. I had the sub cancelled before this was offered to me. all done in the 1 (long) phone call so i did not lose any viewing.

Relocated my FTA box this morning so Sky+ is now 100% unobstructed. Thanks for the advice.

Re: service call, it's booked now so I'll live with it. Couldn't be bothered trying to 1) wait to get through 2) play call my bluff with the call center.

Yes, I find this bluffing ridiculous... on Sky's part, not on the part of people who say they will cancel.

It annoys the people who have to do it, and it annoys the people who pay the charges because they feel treated unfairly. Bad feelings all around.

Wizard, yes I've done the upgrade and it went fine. Make sure you've got the Torx-10 security bit with the hole in the tip, and ease the IDE cable off with a flat screwdriver, don't pull it off as it can separate from the connector.

You may have your eye on the 250Gb 5400rpm drive from Komplett? Definitely a good choice, but my Maxtor 160Gb works fine.

    Ix.
