Years temp contract and pregnancy

The wife has been offered a job with a County Council of a years temp contract due to start next month.
In between the interview and the job offer she found out she is pregnant.

    Where does she stand?
Can they pull the job offer?
If she takes it then lets them know can the cancel the contract or do they have to offer maternaty leave?

Any one any suggestions for finding information?

There was a thread on this a few weeks ago and as I recall the consensus seemed to be that the norm is to wait 3 months before telling people, including her new employer.

If she has signed the contract then they can't back out of it just because she's pregnant. They can of course terminate her employment for an unrelated matter. I'm not sure what the situation would be with the maternity leave but I'd be doubtful on it.

    And congratulations!
