I'm getting this in a few days, just wondering what you think of them, any comments etc? Pictures I've seen look great, and I've played around with the Holga before. They're great little cameras for really good money, and the effects you seem to be able to get off the colour splashes look great.

Look for the 'Plastic Fantastic' package.

I'm not a big fan, despite being impressed by some amazing shots.. they're usually flukes TBH
I might be a grumpy old man but i prefer to make a photo, not let the camera do all of the work.. :p

How do you mean 'too retro'? As in the technology?

See they are still well overpriced. And does one of those cameras take 120 film? You'll have to send that to a pro lab to be processed...

I would buy into the whole Lomography thing if they actually were cheap... But they aint.

Cheap construction, cheap materials, cheap labour... So why arent they cheap?

The second hand film camera market is soooo good now. Just look on ebay and see what you would get for €250... (Oh not lomography
though. Just take your pics slighly out of focus, and use photoshop to skew and saturate the colours, add some vignetting etc ;))

I'm not against them btw. They are a fun camera. And are capable of some cool pics (like every camera ever made, in the right hands). I just dont see the value.

Seems like a triumph of marketing to me... "Comrades, we have all this ex-Soviet camera stock and assembly lines, that we bought for next nothing. What shall we do with it? I know. Lets create a scene, and sell them at a premium to decadent rich Westerners"...

How much was it Fajitas? I'm still a bit undecided about them. I've seen some good shots but that's not all down to the camera. They do have a very good company image though and this sells a lot of cameras for them. As for Shrimps comments about them being too retro I wouldn't really listen to him.

Lomographic Society cameras are vastly overpriced and not worth buying from them. Holgas can be bought for less than half the price on eBay, and you might even be better off going on a weekend trip to an Eastern European country to get cheap Soviet cameras.

That said, they're a lot of fun and have a quality to them which will disappear one day. Still, dont let the LomoSoc fool you, they're crap cameras. I have a Lomo LC-A, a Holga, a Lomo Lubitel and their Frog Eye camera. Love the first two but am too poor to shoot film these days.

One question: where can I get a well-priced old manual Nikon or Canon SLR? I wanna get back to basics.

FX - It's €250 for the 5 of them, including films and other bits and bobs. Not too bad in my opinion. 50 quid a camera pretty much. I have access to a darkroom where the 120 film can be developed, and can develope the others either myself or through a shop where my mate works.

Dadakopf - If your up for a weekend away, go to Prague, there's a camera shop I can give you directions to over there which sell's second hand cameras for better prices than I've seen on eBay...or pretty much anywhere else!

I know their crap, basic plastic camera's, but I really like the shots I've seen off my mates Holga, and feic it, it's my birthday on Sat, I might aswell treat myself.

Well rock on with your new gear. I'd rather this package than a €250 digi point n shoot recommended in the what camera posts we've got.

BTW I'd recommend you trawl ebay for outdated film, works better with these cameras. Enjoy.
