    Folks,
Gimmie a few songs which are great to test a set of speakers with :)
I'm thinking a lot of the bass here too.

    Rock/Pop/Classical, anything.

    Cheers,
    S.

i got a B&W demo dvd with some peter gabriel and it gives the speakers a good run, also some classicial music with a lot of violins and bass.

Classical music, but my preference is some Aphex Twin, some of the stuff is very dynamic if you know it well.

Metallica - Enter Sandman. You only need the first 2 minutes.
Pink Floyd -The Wall (live) for the open range of sounds.
Death in Vegas have an amazing range of frequencies in their music too.

Classical, try Mozart's Requium. Or some film scores like LOTR. Hans Zimmer has some fantastic tracks. I would also recommend The Piano by Michael Nymann -SACD/DTS-a if you can get it!

I usually use the first 2 tracks off Bjork's album Homogenic. Its a great mixture of different instruments and tones...

High production value, strings and electronics mixed together, sub bass on the opening track, fast attacking percussian, and unlike most modern recordings a pretty wide dynamic range (quiet and loud bits)...

Gives any speaker/amp combination a good workout imo..

    OMD - Seven Seas
China Crisis - King in a Catholic Style
Nick Heyward - Blue Hat for A Blue Day (Good test of speed of speakers)
Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus or See You
Moby - Anything from the Play album (Cool Bass synth)
Enigma - MCMXC A.D. (Album title)
Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights (Amazing voice)

The Gun Battle in Master & Commander - very dynamic and ground shaking. I've yet to hear a home cinema system mimic the dynamics and sound as "realistically" as a cinema. If it's believable on your test speakers then get them.

If you're bringing a test CD be sure none of the tracks started out as an MP3 or any compressed format for that matter.
