I'd be inclined to go for one with good grip. Avoid blades/mouldies. Make sure they're comfortable.

As a defender I've always found Umbro best for boots, they tend to be more about the boot rather than the "bling".

You're only as good as a player and the boots don't make you a better defender. I use blades because I find it easier to turn quickly.
