    Hey Folks,
My Dad's been complaining that he wants a photo printer for a while now so I figure Ill get him one for xmas. Hes got a digital camera (Lidl one but takes decent pics) and if at all possible if the camera could hooke directly to the printer without a PC (not mandatory but handy)
Looking at a budget of about 200 euro
    Any Ideas?

    /edit
Was looking at this : http://komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=313427&cks=PRL
    Any comments?

    *shrug*
I only ever look at the cost of consumable when someone considers these: €38.90 for replacement cart, ink, paper from Komplett.

Are his shots any good? I've discouraged people from buying them by pointing out how most of their photo's need to be,um, 'touched up slightly'- It's cruel but has to be done.

Iv seen samples from some similar printers in PC World. They take a snap there and then and print it for you. Quality was rubish on the HP ones I saw. Hard to say why because some are supposed to be pretty good.

Actually not a bad idea. Slightly better: Take a memory card into PC World with a photo that you know / have printed before and print it off:)

I have one of the earlier model Canon portable printers. Does 6x4's lab quality although yes, compared to getting them done in a lab it now works out more expensive. Back when I got it it was a bit cheaper to do them at home, now it's about twice the price. If only they'd drop the price of the paper/cartridge sets.

Great for a few once off prints you need right away though.

you're much better off getting them done on a real photo lab, costs are around 15c a print if you shop around and the results from traditional wet chemistry based printing of digital photos is still better than inkjet printing

most places have kiosks that let you choose your pictures, crop them, do all kinds of tweaks and then you can choose your size and paper type, matt or glossy, white borders or not etc etc....

just my opinion. as for those small printers, you can't go far wrong with a Canon, but you quickly get sick of the price of new ink and new photo paper and the cost of reprinting when things go wrong with them or you make a mistake in the printing

I use an A4 HP PhotoSmart and, so long as you use the photographic setting and photo paper it is more than adequate. It doesn't do direct from the cemera photos but the newer models probably do.

Garth_v this is a great printer, EPSON Stylus Photo R800...the quality is excellent for an inkjet printer, I seen this on pixmaina for under 300. If you can strech your budget you would have an excellent home printer. When your prints are on the wall it would be hard to tell whether it was from a lab or inkjet.

I got a present of an Epson R300,its prints photos very well but I doubt if it would be economical to use regularly. It has SIX ink cartridges. It can take memory cards and cameras directly and can also be used as a regular printer.Prints CD's as well.
Handy though for the occasional one you want right away
