Lingual braces?

I should have done it years ago but didn't for a number of reasons but as I'm nearing 30 I want to get my crooked teeth fixed once and for all. I asked my dentist about "Lingual braces" (which are applied to the back of the teeth instead of to the front) but he said they wouldn't be the best option. However, he's a fairly conservative dentist and I was expecting him to say this so I want to explore every option first before I proceed with traditional braces.

Does anyone here have any personal experience of lingual braces or know someone who's had them?

I hope someone here can help as I'm not looking forward to having traditional braces for the next 18-24 months at my age.

there was recently a thread bout this... why not try the clear braces. i met someone recently in their 60s with braces... not sure why anyone would do that but... ?? never too old it seems!
[personally id be happy to have my own teeth nearing my 70s, but having them and fixing them... thats classic]

I have braces at the moment I'm 28- top & bottom, half clear, half metal & I have no regrets what so ever. I went about getting Lingual braces first & then found out about these ones, they take half the time & aren't as expensive.
If you're really thinking about doing it, go ahead, whatever ages you are, You're teeth are important & if you're not happy with them that's never going to go away.

I can safely say that getting my teeth straightened is one of the best things I've ever done. Makes such a difference, to your appearance and your confidence. Makes you a lot more kissable too! :)

I agree. I had a mouth that looked like a graveyard a couple of years ago and I absolutely hated the braces but I will never ever regret getting it done. And absolutely go for clear traintracks (Tom Cruise had 'em and look at him!) they are the most effective and quickest method. Good luck!!

Did Tom Cruise really get traintracks? I was wondering what he did.. though I've never seen pics of him with em..

    off to google I go!!
He'll take them off for movies", she said. ,,To him, it's no big deal."

,,The 'Mission: Impossible' star decided to perfect his pearly whites after taking one of his kids to the orthodontist and the doctor noticed his bite was out of alignment", Kingsley said. Cruise reportedly is wearing see-through braces, but Kingsley said a single wire from the apparatus was plainly visible across his upper teeth.

    hmmmm

I would recommend going to an Orthodontist for an opinion. Your dentist may well be correct saying that lingual braces are not appropriate for you, but at the same time orthodontics is a specialised field and your dentist may not have the experience to definitively say one way or the other what is suitable for you.

Even if you do go for the traditional "train tracks", a few people in your age bracket at work have had them and I don't give it a second thought - until they come off, and you can immediately see the benefits. I don't think the perceived stigma attached to wearing braces is anything like it used to be.

After you get them off for the love god wear your retainer, I had braces from when I was 13 till I was 16 then I didn’t wear my retainer and one of my teeth went out of place and I had to get them again & this time my Orthodontist moved to Dublin (got them on 30th of Aug getting them off on the 18th of Jan) but I advise you to get them.

Clear braces sounds great - and the animations in that website is very convincing. Anyone know how much it would cost to get it done? I have a crooked one (may be two) that I could do with some fixin' ! :)

    thanks in advance!

Those things are really expensive(clear gum guardy thingys). I got a set of those after losing my original retainers. They cost me £100.00 sterling for 1 set. You can't see them, they feel comfortable so you don't notice them and they stay in place which makes them fantastic but you have to be prepared for the cost.

i think your dentist might be a little out of date. lingual braces can be used in 99.9% or cases. More so than removable braces such as invisalign.

you should always get the opinion of a qualified orthodontist. you'll get thebest advise and all options will be open to you.

I work in an ortho practice and we see many patients who require corrective treatment after getting 'ortho' from a dentist.

with respect to action man....it looks like he has had some veneers as well as ortho!
