What are the disadvatages of getting an AMD chip in a laptop as opposed to the Intel with centrino technology? Is the battery life a lot shorter?
Take an AMD Athlon64 3700+, what intel chip would be equivilant to this?

I have an AMD64 3400 in this laptop. It's better than a 3.4 (ish) ghz p4 in a similar chipset/ram config (hence their naming scheme).
The battery life is significantly shorter and they run hotter than centrinos or turions. They are, however, quicker than the centrino & turion.
Also you'll need to make sure it has onboard wireless as it isnt integrated into the A64 chip.

Any thoughts on this? Im trying to hook my brother up, and since vat does not come into the price :D, 1080E seems like a good deal?
Oh, its the last one in that list, the 3700+.

    I have its predecessor - the A1630.
3400, 1gb ram, 80gb hdd, 128mb 9700 etc - basically the exact same and I'm very happy with it :)

If you can afford the extra €195, go for the higher spec jobby as 1gb ram is a must for games imho. If not, you can buy ram for €120 and fit it yourself and then sell the 2x256 sticks (but you'd want to sell them after the warranty is up :) )

Not sure if he will be playing many games, but my dad could organise him some extra ram fairly cheaply so could add that at a later date.
    Thanks for the replys.

Pointless getting an A64 if he's not going to play games.
    Get a centrino instead.

Agreed. unless he's doing something as intensive as gaming then a centrino is the way to go.
