It depends. Some weeks the guards come early and shut down all thier stalls, other weeks they dont arrive at all!!! So you can just be lucky!!! I went a month ago and they were selling them. Joansborough market is better, a lot better choice!

Thanks for that. In Jonesborough they were looking for €10 each. In Drogheda 5 for 20. Cant go wrong there. There were at least 10 stalls there selling them about a year ago

Dont know the name of the street but its parallel to the main street in drogheda. Turn off to the left if you are driving along the main street (which is one way). On every Saturday

Bolton Square. If you're walking down Narrow West Street towards the Garda station, take right, up the laneway by Abrakebabra and walk straight- can't miss it.

You take the N1 to Newry(towards Belfast) from Dundalk (M1 motorway). When you get to the local Garda station and restaurant, take the next left after the Nite Club thereon your left hand side. I don't recall the name but the market is thru the village on the right hand side. Hope that helps:o

I am surprised that anybody would admit to wanting to purchase these counterfeit DVDs at Drogheda Market.

These are produced by criminal gangs and your money goes towards supporting organised crime. Most of the gangs are based in Muirhevnamore in Dundalk. I pay my rates and taxes and do not condone other thugs breaking the law like this. They do not pay tax or VAT on these DVDs. Do not support them. Hopefully Drogheda Corporation will bring in a new bye law to deal with this problem.

I know nothing about Jonesborough market, but can definately state the situation re Drogheda. On several occassions consignments were seized by INFACT backed up by Garda. Some of these were in vans stopped around Killineer en route to Drogheda market. Those involved were from Dundalk, all connected to organised criminal gangs. Seizure mentioned on LMFM and also printed in Irish Independent. INFACT will send you the press releases if you ask them to.

If you think for one second that these guys pay VAT, income tax or copyright licences then you are a total fool. Cannot name names on a site like this but I have the names and addresses. Ask any member of Drogheda Town Council about this problem, they will confirm what I say. Counterfeit and copyright are the same as theft, you would not like somebody to enter your house and steal your goods but that is exacty what these thugs are doing. If you want to but a DVD get one in the Sound Shop or Scotch Hall and support proper businesses who employ people at a proper wage and do not try to dodge tax.

Im going to have to jump in here! First of all Bill Finnerty has made some very valid points, while we all know that piracy is wrong boards.ie will not endorse it and I will not allow you comments again carpothepunk, If you do not want to buy Legitimate dvd from legitimate retailers that is your purgative, but I don’t want to hear you condoning piracy again or im going to open a can or whoop ass.

Sarge dont open the can, please god no:P

I never said i bought dvds did i?No i did not,so ill edit my post, but only cos you and PORNAPSTER scare me...

Just to say what i wanted to say, some of those shops dont pay "Proper Wage" and have been cited for wage problems, and as for the LMFM comment, since when have they been a wealth of knowledge anyway

EDIT:i also never "condoned" piracy,i merely had a rant

Thanks Sarge for the wise intervention. Re LMFM the only reason I mentioned them was that somebody would probably ask me to verify my info. I use to enjoy the market at Drogheda but have more or less stopped going there, partly due to the menacing and uncomfortable athmosphere that these DVD sellers have created. Hopefully this problem will be sorted out in the future.

Bill, Drogheda market has a lot more then DVD and CD's for sale. So don’t let that stop you going around and having a look. What I love about this market is the fresh fruit and veg and the old guy that sells the eggs. Been a while since I was there though.

You can buy legit region 2 dvd's from wholesalers for about €3 but the selection ain't huge.

The rewards vs risks are so big with dvds that it's impossible to eradicate. Penalties would need to be far greater than mere confiscation.

i used to run a stall there for donkeys years selling plants but business was ruined by these criminal thugs. The threatened other stall holders and created a menacing atmosphere around the place (attracting sc**mbags and hoodies and the likes) and drove out the traditional buyers.

Nobody in authority bothered to stop it. Probably because they were getting more lucrative rates from the shopping centres and retail parks and didnt give a toss about the market, only about lining their greasy pockets and brown-nosing their half educated auctioneer and spec builder mates.

    For shame.
