OK folks, theres nothing wrong with modifying your car and making it look good but the clowns who drive around in absolute sh1tboxes, do you think they actually realise they are driving around in skangermobiles or are they too sknagery to notice? Discuss....

    Perfect example\on cbg....

Is this clown having a laugh? 14K?? lmao

LOL @ faceman !! Seriously lads why wud u bother ur jaxie spending so much money on doing up a mint coloured 96 bogger reg corsa? Thats just ridiculous.A tenner says the owner is 21 or less and has a "tache" hired from blacktie !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,391 ✭✭✭5500

Id say its a sleeper,2ltr engine conversion in and aswell as different ecu and god knows what else hence the pricetag.

It might not be your taste but i reckon it moves!

Its a modified car anyways not a skangermobile

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭Sizzler

OK...I agree, its a modified motor cos it has a 2 litre engine and its nippy but apart from that it looks KAK. If its not a skangermobile, can sumone show me what is ....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,391 ✭✭✭5500

Even if it was still a 1litre,its still a modified car, there's a fair amount of work gone into it - wouldnt be my taste but i can appreciate where the owner was coming from.

Imo this would be a skanger mobile as you call it

For the money he spent on it he could have bought a decent m3.

But then his insurance quote would be a bit high :)

Or even buy a bog standard 1.0 Micra, pay for all the running costs for 5 years, including insurance, petrol and tax while building up a full NCB and having enough left over for an M3 and insurance...

To each his own, that Corsa is a very expensive collection of mods. The quality of the bodykit is very high, the wheels are premium stuff as is the paintjob. I'm not a fan of Mr GM's work but that is most definitely not a skangermobile. The Fiesta on the other hand is a skangermobile and only one step away from this beauty which I created a few years ago *note the badboy headlight brows, roofspots and crash damage...*

Beefing up a Corsa wouldn't be first on my list of priorities, but I have to agree with the others who say that this is not really a skanger mobile. The person who owns that Corsa has put a lot of hard work and money into all those expensive mods, and has got some quality kit. I've seen soooooo much worse on the roads, so I don't know why you have singled this car out as a skanger mobile.

Now that Fiesta is a skanger mobile.

I have to agree with Saddler, whats the point in wasting all that money on a corsa when he/she could save the money and buy a proper decent powerfull car, instead he/she is driving around in something that the vast majority of people look at and laugh at.

You see thats the joy of modifying,
You do it to your own taste and dont care what anyone else thinks of your work.If you built a car for other peoples taste then that'd be a waste imo.

Chances are with the stuff thats done to it its powerfull enough as it is to wipe the smile of many a middle ager in his bmw 320's face

Ah now in fairness lads...its one thing modifying a half decent car but a corsa...come on !! Plus looking at that car, goes to show you money dont buy you taste....what odds his insurance company know theres a 2 litre in her :-)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 358 ✭✭dogz

quite high actually hes clearly spent thousands on it so why wouldnt he declare it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,391 ✭✭✭5500

As above, hed be silly not to declare it with the amount of work gone in there.

I owned a widearch corsa before my current car, why?because i liked it and it was different,it may have only been a 1.2,cost shag all to run/insure/tax but at the end of the day it was different and i couldnt give a rats what anyone else thought of it

I bet all the 16 yr old moths on your estate looked on in awe every sunday morning when you went down the shops to buy the papers:)

    They sure did!

Out of intrest do you/have own'd a modded car?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭Sizzler

Yeah but its for sale :-( Check out the for sale section...its a ford cortina....in my mind its a "modified" car anyway....you might argue with me lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,391 ✭✭✭5500

Mmm it depends,id class retro cars restored as a form of modifying but i wouldnt add teh furry dice or leopardskin seat covers!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭Sizzler

Ahh man, thats the class touch though, its a must if you have a cortina :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,180 ✭✭✭Interceptor

Sticking furry dice and an 'island' gearknob is hardly modifying - I think you have a nerve slagging the 2.0 Corsa when you have an unfinished clapped out pipe-and-slippers mobile. Cortinas were rubbish when they were the best Ford could do, and they are still rubbish. I bet all the retired cops in your estate fancy a nostalgic spin in your rear-wheel drive wheely-bin. Good luck with the sale.

I dont mind modifying if i had the money I'd do some myself but theres classy modifying that makes a car look sexy, sporty and enhances what the car is, and then theres over the top modifying which is in my opinion just attention seeking

I reckon this guy/girl (god i hopin its a girl because that colour.... well it doesnt exactly give off very manly vibes does it?) who owns/ owned the corsa is nuts. There's no point in bothering to spend thousands of a heap of sh1te like a corsa just because you think you'll get cheap insurance. It'll ony stay cheap if the eejit driving it doesnt declare the mods.
Most people driving little weedy cars like this with thousands spent on mods dont actually have insurance because they havent declared the mods. They're fooling themselves.
Anyway, most of them are in fact slower than standard because of the extra weight of the bus sized exhaust, the ridiculous bodykit and massive wheels (which actually ruin the already poor handling and feck up the gearing too because the rolling radius is too big to compensate for by using low profile tyres) and the little Sh1tboxes tend to have standard engines. I'm not totally against standard engines it just that the extra weight sloes standard car down.

You can make a standard fiesta 1.1 as quick as 0r quicker than many 1.4s in real terms by fitting a decent suspension kit, decent wheels and tyres (15" max for sake of handling), Giving the engine a going over autograss style with a skimmed ported and polished head and a k+n filter . Strip out the back seats, fit buckets in front, add a xr2i or rst bodykit. and you've got a great fun little car that will feel a bit like a hot rod or auto test car.
Its surprisingly vheap to do most of this.

Wheras you like fiestas(which lots of people would consider a trainee hairdresser or nuns car) the owner obviously liked his/her corsa and the colour.

Tbh if you offered the above fiesta or the corsa i know which one id be taking and it wouldnt be the one driving to the salon.

Saying most people with cars like that dont declare there mods is abit of a big generalisation, especially on a car with that amount of work gone into it your hardly gonna say when asked the value by insurance "eh 2'000 euro".

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 227 ✭✭Con_316

Im not a big fan of fiestas, they're just marginally better than corsas and i was just making a point that with a small car you can make it fun and a lot quicker without the use of horrible minty looking paint, 20 inch wheels and an exhaust that could swallow up a fu*kin cat!.
People seem very quick to assume that just baceuse some1 makes a point about somthing then they are totall for it rather than , as i was doing, simply making a point and i happened to pick a fiesta to use as the base for my point.
I would not be surprised if about about 100 people freak out now and send me hatemail but: I HATE CIVICS, THEYRE BORING NOW! EVERY SKANGER EITHER HAS 1 OR DREAMS TO HAVE ONE, THEY ARE PURE SKANGER MOBILES and there are too many of them around.

Now if you want to talk about proper cars , forget most front wheel drive sh*te and start talkin BMW, mitsubishi starion (now there's a hardcore sideways machine), MKI and MKII escorts and maybe a cossie or a Capri V6 (for some retro cruisin). Thos are some cars that are actually decent to drive and easy to make extremely fast.
But That's not the point of this thread so if every civic driver or front wheel drve fetishist in the country wants a go at me then please do but start a different thread and we can talk about my obvious "hairdresser " fiesta fetish too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,391 ✭✭✭5500

As i said before the owner wouldnt have done the work to start off with if they didnt like the car, regardless of what make/model of car it is if someone is willing to spend 20k plus on there car then so be it,obviously you'l get people who wont like it but sure your not building a car for anyone else to drive or for there taste.

T5PWR I'm glad some1 else hal the balls to speak out against the evils of the civic. Very nice engines, horrible , boring scoby cars!
Is it T5PWR as in volvo T5 engine? If so Hell Yeah! volvos are cool. But theyre F*ckin expensive to repair! Gearboxes can cost 2grand for a 97 1.8 V40 estate! and te centre caps of the alloys cost 23.50 for a 3inch plastic circle with a volvo badge! A spurious front bumper cost me €660. Still, they'r good cars and the turbos are bloody fast

Yep it's a Volvo T5. Good car alright and surprisingly fast. I haven't had to change much on it as it's well taken care of but I know parts can be expensive. It will be 11 years old in a few weeks, but I still love it...

Can buy the centre caps for the alloys on ebay for cheaper :)

Ah Volvo, "they're boxy but they're good".

Personally I think, like mercs, that they are a bit if an old man car.
Can't deny that they are a wondeful performance wise overall.

Not everyone who is a skanger owns a civic, check out jspeed.net and be amazed. The reason so many people own them is because they are (last model) sporty, reliable & probably the fastest 1.4 on the road.

They are very boxy (most of them) and very good. almost everyone thinks theyre old mans cars but you should drive a turbo one because theyre mental. You can scare the absolute sh1t out of people with one. I knw one guy with a t5 turbo estate i think it's an 850-R it has 260bhp and its ex uk police and still has the flashing headlights. mad fun because it' dark green and looks totally standard but will happily tear off past most "boy racer" style cars who will be expecting an easy time of passing out "a boring old volvo". Unfortunately i sold my S40 t-4. i regret it now.

I like nothing better than slowing down in my car when I know there is a muppet-mobile behind me. Dry a really old huge merc, takes up most of the road...it's really slow and heavy...I love it :D

The concept of that is quite funny but did you ever think it could be kind of dangerous, last year, i was driving home and i came up behind a big volkswagen van, a LT35 or something and soon after that a Lancer overtook me and went in behind the van quite close and tha van did just what you talked about, slowed down and moved out a bit to take up the road. whenever the lancer went to try overtake, the idiot driving the van blocked him. The lad in the lancer became increasingly erratic in his driving style and eventually overtook up a blind hill and actually clipped the front wing of the van with his car causing the van to go onto the grass verge. Luckily the driver stopped his van safely but it was so sudden i could have hit the van if i'd been a bit tired and not concentrating.
Think about that if you go to hold someone back, all you need is one crazy driver who coul potentially get you killed as well as himself

I passed 2 spanners in a "Modified" 00 punto today, Im guessing the guy easily spent a few grand on it, but yet it A)Looked kak and B) Most importantly...its a ****ing punto !!!

And the fact he had L plates on it certainly didnt do his street cred any good ;)
