    Hello,
I not really into photography but would like to be.

    I have a digital camera - Olympus C4000z
    I am thinking about getting a lense - Olympus ED 300mm 1:2.8

Does anyone know if these are compatible ?
Will this combination allow me to zoom in to take a quality photo of an ant on leaf ?
Will combo allow to me zoom in on a bird 50 yard away ?
I realy have no clue, so any info about lenses and what the 300mm means etc etc would be helpful,
    thanks in advance.
    Col

your camera is a cheap digital compact camera and the lens is attached and doesn't come off to be changed

the 300mm lens you mention (note: it's lens not lense) costs about €7000

to take a photo of an ant, you need a camera with macro abilites
to take a photo of something far away you need telephoto abilities

you are right, you really have no clue so your best bet before you go spend €7000 on something you can't use is to read some very very basic books or online articles about how a camera works

    a tip: USE GOOGLE

Actually as far as taking your picture of an ant you should be able to do a pretty good job with what you've got with the macro facility of your current camera. I used to have the C-3030Z which your camera is essentially an upgrade of (and when I bought it in early 2000 was certaibly not cheap!) You'll need a tripod or a very steady hand, but you can achieve some quite good results if you persevere.

It means your wallet needs to be 300mm thick to afford the lens(e)
