    Lo all,

Is it just me but is the sound quality on RTE just like the requirement to pay a TV license, shocking!

There is crazy distortion and 'tearing' in high-pitched tones.

Please say I'm not alone :D

Just watched Nationwide on RTE 1 on satellite, sounds fine through the hifi in Belgium.

    Tell us your setup!!!

Zero connection between the two ... perhaps you have a poor quality set or need to adjust your high quality one. The sound on a lot of mass market TV sets leave a lot to be desired.

You're not alone .. I had that last week.. only on RTE1 and NET2, other channels were fine (well as good as they've ever been).

I never had a problem before. Signal quality + strength is rock steady at about 85% as it always has been.

    No other channels are affected.

I have a Philips Matchline 32" CRT, that baby has no poor quality parts :)

    Box is a Panasonic 2.1.M

    Me too....
In the last week or two on RTE 1/ 2...all other channels seem ok.
There was an announcement on RTE last night that they were carrying
out maintenance on Mt Leinster transmitter today...maybe thats' the prob' ?

    Don't think so.

All satellite broadcasts (inc TV3 and TG4) come from a satellite uplink opposite the front door of RTÉ. It doesnt go near the analogue transmitters.

So what does that leave...the Pace box ??
Maybe a poor/dirty connection on the scart lead ??

    Any ideas welcome DMC

    Thanks.:)

This issue has been around for a week or so... has anyone actually rang RTÉ? It didnt affect myself, so I cant comment on the issue as such.
1850 584 584 is the Transmitter info line....

    Hi Sparky,

Seems to be v/bad when they switch over to the weather studio...although maybe that's just a link problem or maybe it's more noticable then...I don't know.

Same here on Sky+ V2 and Grundig multiroom box, seems to be worse on RTE news braodcasts and weather, switched back to analogue and sounds seems fine. It's being happening for about a week now.

i have also noticed it a bit on some programs on rte
but it seems very intermittent, could it be weather related?

    Folks,

Rang the number DMC posted yesterday evening and RTE said they had logged a call earlier about the sound distortion. Gave me the impression that if more called them they would have actioned it earlier. They did promise though to look into it urgently by checking the various transmission routes from studdio to where-ever.

And here I am about to take a hammer to my Digisender. Odd thing is the sound is OK on the main TV but really distorted on the Digisender but only on RTE 1.

I had sound distortion problems on a few channels a couple of years ago and someone on this forum (can't remember who at the moment) gave me very good advice. The volume output of a digibox can distort the sound on the TV if it's set too high (some TVs seem to be more sensitive than others, and some channels seem to output higher than others). I reduced the volume output on my digibox and it completely cured the problem.

    Press Services,

Then Press 4 (for System Setup)

Then Press 2 (for Sound Settings)

Scroll down to the Volume and use the left arrow button to reduce the output level.

Scroll down to "Save New Settings" and press select.

Try it out at different levels and hopefully it'll sort out the problem.

Let us know how you get on.

Nope sorry to say it didn't work (for me)

odd this is it's only RTE and only on my left channel. Oh well i'm sure it will be sorted out soon
