PSP - I'm confused

I really want to get a PSP, but theres one small issue that is really bugging me before I shell out for one. There seems to be a hell of alot of them going up for sale very shortly after purchase. This begs me to ask teh question, why? Is it that they don't live up to expectations and people are trying to get the money back for them while they are still quite exclusive or am I missing something?

    Thanks for any feedback...

I've had one nearly a year now and I'm delighted with it. If you buy it as a movie / mp3 player and aren't into games you might be disappointed but that's all I can think of really, it's everything I wanted it to be.

I understand that it mightnt be great for the video/mp3 features, it seemed very complex trying to put video onto my friends one. But as far as the games even go, I'm not sure if I'm convinced yet...

The PSP is every thing I expected it to be and then some...

It is an absolutly fabulouws gamming machine with a nice library of games to back it up. I got mine on import from Japan when they first became available and I don't regret the decision at all, despite paying over €400 for it.

It is also grand at playing UMD movies on the go, its far FAR less bulky than a protable DVD player or laptop.

The only let down on the unit is the MP3 player, but I'm sure it was only added as a after thought, the improtant thing is it plays games, and it playes them well... In short, buy one... now...

I would only consider getting a GigaPack tbh. And I dont think I have much chance of getting one any time soon?! Also, I was keen on the Homebrew aspect of the PSP but by all accounts, the new Firmware has all but put an end to it?

Excuse my ignorance if I am wrong on these points...

Sort of yea. If you want to play GTA you need 2.0 firmware. If you want homebrew you need 1.5 firmware. You can upgrade and downgrade between the two but it's not something you'd wanna do too often. And 2.5 is out now and no doubt we'll soon be forced to upgrade soon enough and so far there's no crack.

Basically, if your determined you can run homebrew but it's more hassle than it's worth at the moment if you want to play the latest games.

As for the gigapack, I saw that on shelves in Gamestop the other day, but no idea if they were actually selling it or it was an 'out soon' display or what.

If I am right the gigapacks only extra is the 1 gig memory stick. Which you will only really need for ISO's of PSP games. Even then be warned that there is currently no way to run new games from the memory stick, so if you were buying it for for free games be warned!

The new firmware has put an end to home brew if and only if you have a firmware higher than version 2 (Sony have recently released 2.5). If you have 2 you can downgrade to 1.5 for homebrewing.

I'd be reasonably confident that the newer firmwares will eventually be cracked, so just be patient and see what happens.

    Either one does me :D

But if you happen to come accross a nice wad of money head to GameStop for a nice PSP too!

Will do exzantia. Got the ol' Xmas/Birthday combo coming up so might scrape it together. Incidentally, is there a projected price out for the PS3 yet?

Nope. The official word from Sony is it'll be 'expensive'

If I was to guess I'll say 500. They played up the price of the PSP so when it came out at 100 more than the DS it seemed cheap compared to expectations, I can see them doing the same here.

Projected PS3 price from Sony is 300-400 dollars, only went up today.

Scratch that, they'd taken it from CNN. CNN today had to print a retraction and apologise for attributing a quote to Kataguri that wasn't him at all.

He said the PS3 would be "expensive" but I'd say no moreso than the 360.
