Bass Strings

Been playing bass for about 5 years and know suprisingly little about strings. Have only bought new strings once... and bought a brand new bass in between so basically I've changed strings twice in 5 years. What are the best make do you think?

I have a Warwick Rockbass so I'm looking at Warwick strings. There's 3 types from cheap to not so cheap. I can pick up the cheap set for €8, the medium for €12 and top set for €20. I'm no Jaco Pastorius but I'm not Adam Clayton either. Wouldn't be too demanding on the strings but would be more than just stagnant bass lines. Usually like to have a deep tone but in the past I've found my tone wasn't bright enough.

Here are the Warwick strings http://www.warwickbass.com/misc/strings.html

Would they be good for all styles of play? I'm not looking for something too bright.

They're the best I've ever played, by a long way on a long list including the likes of Rotosound, Elixir, Warwick, Daddario, Ernie Ball, Vox, GHS, Fender, Webstrings, Elites and some I can't even remember anymore.

I'd go with Ernie Ball myself.

I'll probably just go with the Warwick's, those Dean Markley's aren't available in the store near me and since Warwick are German they're miles cheaper than anything else.

Now wait a minute, there, Doc! Last time this subject came up you said "Rotosound, end of story"! Tried something new, eh? :v:

DR's for me....just bought the blue coated ones, putting them on tonight.

That was for a guy looking for the Ric tone. For a Ric, Rotosounds, no question. Warwick Rockbass, SR2000s. End. Of. Story. :v:

Ahh, so there are many stories in the Naked City tonight to be ended. :v: :v:

Different strings for different basses, there is no holy grail :p

The doc advised me on the SR2000s too, and after plenty of tracking, eventually found them on Strings And Beyond. They do make a nice difference in tone alright, but unfortunately, you have to change the action due to the tapered construction of the string. Unless you like fretbuzz, of course.

Strings And Beyond are a good place too, and if youre lucky, theyll throw in a fridge magnet little bag of plectrums, and 'Bob' will give you a little message on the billing page :)
