Anybody have a makeshift cable for the Xbox that I can plug in a USB key to? I'm looking to softmod my brother's Xbox using a cracked savegame for the likes of Rouge Agent. Not really willing to buy a new controller just to hack off the cable and splice it with a female usb cable so anybody got one ready made that I can either borrow or buy? Or know of a place that I can get a good one?

or just get an xbox controller extender cable from Game (€5~ish) and a USB extender cable from a PC shop. Then you can cut them and join the two together (insulating tape works) to make an xbox male->usb female cable. Works for me.

Hrm that would be good cheers yeah. Actually you seem to have experience in modding xboxes, any chance you could softmod it... like walk me through the process so that I know how to do it in the future.

for softmodding go the xbe exploits thread on www.xbox-scene.com forums. Look at krayzie's nDure gamesave installer...very easy when you know how. The most important bit of advice is to make sure you backup your eeprom to a PC via ftp during the install. That way if anything goes wrong it can be fixed

Sounds good lads cheers, I really wanna get to know how to do this myself before I go ruining an Xbox that isn't even mine, at least then I'll have experience. Again, cheers lads. Btw, when accessing the Xbox via FTP to transfer stuff over, is there anything displayed on the tv screen? Might just plug in the Xbox to my tv card to see what it's displaying, to save myself the trouble of bringing a tv down to the PC aswell.

Cheers for all the help lads.

Out of curiosity, has anyone managed to attach and external USB HD to XBox when running XBMC/EvoX? I'm looking at that as an alternative to buying an NSLU to attach external HD's to my network.

you could possibly use unleashx but it would format it to whatever file system the msdash uses for savegames (FATX) therefore making it innacessible in windows. Without using linux on the xbox, there is no application that will read FAT16 or FAT32 formatted devices.

Besides all that the transfer speeds would be painfull, you're better off getting an NSLU. I think linksys do a fairly hackable one
