I think they are litre bottles, and more like gimmicky oversized longnecks. The 40oz in the US is about 1 litre but shorter, like a glass 1 litre schweppes lemonade bottle. When I used to brew beer I would use the 1 litre schweppes bottle.

they are not very practical, smaller the bottle the better IMO, it wont go flat and you dont end up with a "end of the can" bit of undrinkable crap. Those 250ml "throwbacks" are great because of that.

    40oz is 2 Irish Pints.

I don't like bottles that size unless I'm sharing with a few people. Find they go flat and warm too quick.

If I'm sharing beers at a table I'd rather get a large ceramic jug, put it in the fridge so it chills right through, and pour a bunch of beers into that for the table. Keeps cold longer.

IIRC most 40oz are 8% alcohol, so your getting the strength of 3-4 pints of beer. For 3 dollars!

Last time I checked Ireland used the metric system (apart from the odd pint here and there) and 40oz meant sh*t to me.

yes we do use the metric system very good, anyway 40oz is exactly two pints which is over a litre.

The Large Drinks in UGC are 40oz, and will make you need to pee badly half way through a film, making you miss important plot points.
I'm speaking from experience, but my point is, if you want a 40oz, steal one of those cups and fill it with a few cans of beer.
