    Hello,

Im interested in starting to play women's rugby.

I've never played before but Im quite athletic already.

Any teams/clubs in the Central Dublin area (D6/D4 preferably)? Or any websites that would help?

There are loads of clubs around Dublin, Old Belvedere are always looking for new people to join. They train on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

You can contact them at belvoladies@yahoo.ie or contact their coach Alwyn Thomas Alwyn.Thomas@boimail.com
    Ph. 086 8343 583

Also This page has a list of all the club contacts for Leinster women's teams. You'll have to join the website, but it's free and only takes a few minutes.

just if you want to see the standard that women's rugby is played at, the women's interprovincial finals are on sunday in clontarf rfc - the 3rd place playoff is on at 12.30 (i think) and the final is on at 2.30 (again, i think).

you can get the 130 bus from abbey street if you're interested in coming along. there will also be a social event on in the bar afterwards, music, band, kareoke, and a fundraiser to send the irish women's team to canada for the world cup.

Old belvedere would be a good club to join as they have a development team aswell as their firsts so it would be a good place to start.

if you need any more info on women's rugby feel free to contact myself, or i'm sure amz wouldn't mind you asking her a few questions either.

Thanks for the info guys :D

Just one more thing - I have a dodgy knee :( (Torn the ligaments a few times)

Are there any precautions I should take while playing rugby, or is it a good idea at all??

Well, it's up to you really, if you have a physio you could consult about it that might be a good idea, he/she might have a better idea of what your knee could withstand than anyone here could.

Just make sure you warm up properly and wear knee support if you need it etc.

If you've any doubts though I'd suggest maybe trying to get involved in tag rugby as it places less stress on the body, plus it's a great introduction to rugby itself.

you could register your details on www.tagrugby.ie and do a search for teams looking for players. tag is a great way to start and most clubs run some form of social tag over the summer.
