i heard it is possible to buy half price broadway tickets in New York rather than pay full price on www.broadway.com now

Anyone ever do this? Are they queues very long. I will be there for the first few of January. Is this a particularly busy time>

    Thanks

Right in Times Square there is a booth selling them. You will see big red and white "TKTS" signs and a long line of people snaking around. Don't be discouraged by the long line - they get through it quite fast. Often there will be barkers from the various shows walking up and down the line encouraging you to go to see their show. I have done this a few times and it has worked out well. Check out www.tkts.com for more info on these guys.

Another option is to go to the actual theatre the day of the show - last minute cancellations are sold directly from the box office at discounted prices. The most popular shows won't be available from the TKTS line, but you could get lucky going to the actual theatre. I haven't done this myself, but my friend got half price tickets for Rent in the front row this way.

Hey, Yes the q's are meant to be 3 hrs long but if you have the time for this then you should be lucky and get tickets half price.
I'm going to NY this week and hoping to that but 3 hrs might be a little to long for me to be standing around in the cold

there is another place you can get them down by the south seaport.
we were there a few weeks ago, and the tour we did brought us there, we had the option for a quick bite or buy tickets. There are no queue's at all there.

    thanks everyone.

So on this trip, can you get tickets for the lion king? Are they half price or just discounted?

That is the show we want to see, so am I best just buying the tickets now?

The Lion King is pretty popular so it is unlikely to be in the TKTS line at all. You could try going directly to the box office like I suggested, but that is still risky. Like I said, one of my friends got front row - centre at "Rent" for half price doing that, but he is one of the luckiest people I know. If it is right at the start of January when you come, the kids might still be off from school over here, so a show like "The Lion King" would be pretty popular.

You might be better off just sucking it up and paying full price for the peace of mind. The money you'd save probably isn't much compared to the total cost of getting yourself to NYC in the first place.

You could always try the TKTS line or the box offices for some other show another day.

I got tickets from the TKTS line when I was there this summer and they had the full selection and the queue wasn't bad at all ... well we got there fairly promptly after they started selling. Maybe 1hour queuing max, and tis relaxed good-spirited queue :v: 50odd dollars a ticket
